CountryRoyal This is exactly the type of signing we should be making.

McNulty was "prolific" for Coventry last season..... doesn't mean it'll be the same in the Championship

He was prolific in league two. It’s a much bigger jump to the championship, sure you might get one or two like Le Fondre but by and large they don’t. On the other hand there is a far bigger sample size of players who score regularly in League One who go on to be successful at champ level and even above.

At the same time, we're talking about a player who has been "prolific" over a period of two months but averages a goal every 6 games in 200 career appearances, including 9 in 57 in the Championship.

Even this season, 6 in 7 for Rovers is countered by 5 in 27 for Coventry.

He could be a diamond in the rough or he could be Nick Blackman Mk 2.

Simon Church had a prolific spell when he was a youngster.

linkenholtroyal I think we would be better off just sticking with McNulty and giving him a chance.

Had a chance. Failed to impress.

Had a chance. Failed to impress.

Started just 4 games. Not in a row. Always looked promising when I saw him.

Has now done very well on loan.

It's just nonsense to say he had a chance, failed to impress and so should be written off.

Agreed and the whole point is that we are looking at another League 2 striker doing well why not give the one we have got a real go and a pre season to impress

The problem is that McNulty doesn't fit into the Reading system. He always has had a tendency to score goals regularly and that just isn't the Reading way.

Unfortunately I think you're right about Novacovich. It just strikes me that he doesn't remotely consider himself a Reading player and he seems very settled in Holland. I hope we're both wrong because I'd like to see what he can offer us but I just get the feeling that all concerned are resigned to his future not being with us.

If a big offer comes in then it may happen because of the club's FFP situation but Gomes certainly doesn't seem resigned to Novakovich leaving permanently.

From these comments: https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/foot ... r-16070744 think we can expect players to leave and potentially for less than we would like to get them off the books. Doesn't make Novakovich more or less likely to leave (likely one of the lower earners) but suggests any reasonable bid for any player will be taken.

think any bid will be considered, but I do think that rather than just considering their wages and any potential fee we will also take into account their potential contribution on the pitch next season. if we like the look of Nova and plan to bring him in to be one of our first team strikers next year and expect him to play a good proportion of games, that, along with his relatively low wages would mean it would need to be a very decent fee for us to let him go. If he was only going to be a potential 4th choice, it will be easier to pry him away. same for any of our players. moore/swift will attract good fees and be decent wages off the bill, but would also be expected to play in almost every game when fit and contribute massively next year, so the fee that would mean we pull the trigger on any transfer would be be at the higher end of the scale.
