Howe out?

by Simon's Church » 14 Oct 2019 12:52

Since being reappointed as chief executive in December 2018 Nigel Howe has:

Sacked Paul Clement as we were starting to show some form.

Taken 3 weeks to appoint Jose gomes despite him having nothing on his CV to suggest he would be a successful championship manager.

Employed a remarkably scatter gun approach to recruiting players.

Appointed mark Bowen as sporting director despite having no experience of such a role.

Released multiplie videos of himself talking management speak.

Put himself front and centre of the squad photo.

Sacked Jose Gomes despite most of the fans seemingly wanting him to stay.

Seems to be about to hire Mark Bowen as manager despite no experience of management.

Are these the actions of a successful ceo? Were we better off with Gourlay?

Who else would you recommend? I'm not sure if this is trolling or not, but Howe was CEO for the most successful era in our history. If things are still this shit in 4 years time, you can ask the question again.

You were talking a bit of sense until the last sentence.

The owners sacked Gomes, not Howe.

Isn't Howe more in charge of the business aspect of the club anyway? Bowen was brought in to deal with footballing matters.

We would have been relegated under Clement.

The hero worship of Howe on his return was stupid. People remember Coppell and McDermott and conveniently forget Bullivant, Burns and Rodgers.

Still, CEO is going to require more than 11 months to judge given the lack of obvious metrics under his direct control. Gomes hasn't worked (his defenders are out of their minds), now we see if Bowen does. If so, that's a feather in Howe's cap even though he doesn't tick the boxes for the right appointment.

Mid Sussex Royal We would have been relegated under Clement.

Given Clement's record over that season, excluding the first five games, was similar to Gomes', that's far from certain. Especially seeing as it was the loanees who made most of the difference.

For all you know if Clement stayed we might have finished 18th.

I think our owners are very well intentioned if you look at their investment in the club and gestures like away day travel.

But they clearly don't know football well and seem to have the wrong people advising them. It's been a catalogue of bad decisions since they took over. I know Kia Joorabchian is a handy contact in the transfer market, but I'd be happy if he never has another involvement with this club again. He seems to come along every few years, bring in some high profile names and then it doesn't work out. He's not interested in the long term interests of the club, he's interested in himself and his clients. He represents Bowen, if you didn't know.

I know SJM is no longer involved, but the Dai's need to ask him one simple question. Who can they trust to advise them in the Club's best interests? As they're getting it wrong at the moment.

Why would they ask Sir John anything? He has had his day. Sir John for all the good he has done for us is a dinosaur and has no idea about modern football.

More accurately he's going a bit lala and is pissed most of the time it seems.

Also, he was advised by Howe and Hammond, so we've already got 50% here.

Not much of a surprise that people remember the most successful period in the club's history.

Sir John "has no idea about Modern football". Well, no shit!

Sir John had no idea about football when he was chairman. For the most part, he let the people that did know about it get on with their jobs.

People also seemingly forget Nicky Hammond was director of football and part of that role involves searching for the next manager. The chairman Sir John Madejski also had a say in who was hired.
Howe did his part by backing the managers in the transfer market to the best of the club's ability.

No-one hero-worshipped Howe. There was though great relief that Gourlay was gone and replaced by someone who knew the club inside out.

There was more than one person saying he'd solve everything because he was completely brilliant.

Got rid of clement because he was shit.
Got Gomes in who kept us up.
Brought in largely quality players who kept us up and who we are lucky to have now.
Brought in Bowen to help keep us up and it worked.
He can do what he likes with vids and photos.
Sacked a nice chap but an incompetent manager in a timely manner.
Is taking a calculated risk with Bowen on a short contract.
Doing fine.
Better off with Gourlay. Are you having a laugh? [Is he having a laugh?]
