Stockport Royal Was forced into supporting Reading by my Dad.

Would take up supporting the mighty Stockport County as they make their way back to the football league.

He is/was a wise man.

I dunno about that.

If RFC folded now, probably no-one.

Had they never existed … now that's a good question

As a kid, I was a Spurs fan, Klinsmann, Gaza, Lineker era.

As most kids do, support big teams doing well, often in the news, well known players etc. Especially before the internet as you didn’t have access to the info you do now on all clubs. But Spurs aren’t a championship team so this doesn’t count.

Always had a soft spot for Ipswich but again they aren’t championship either

I’d probably plump for Forest.

I do not believe it! Not one person has said that "Great team from the south coast, The team that puts all others to shame, etc, etc." At least that is what their supporters think (I, nor any other Reading Supporters agree with them), I am of course talking about Brighton & Hove Albion.

When I lived in London.I usually went to QPR.Bowles,Francis,Masson,et al.
Saying I supported them would be a bit of stretch.
Always a good crack there in the seventies and worth going just for Stan.
I use to drink in The Swan near Hyde Park, and you would occasionally see them in there.
Had to laugh ,lot of talk of Gerry being available on the Saturday, and he would be slumped on the bar.I think this was the start of his back problems.
Both he and Stan were great players .More skilful than any English players of this era.

The one thing I can say with certainty is that it would NOT be my local team

Green If I had my time again, I'd probably be looking at non-league outfits.

Round my way I'd be looking at your Dulwich Hamlets, Fishers, and your Welling Uniteds.

My mate Benji sponsored Dulwich Hamlets iirc

linkenholtroyal As things are a bit quiet......
If Reading didn’t exist and you had to support another club in the championship who would it be.....
Not taking into account proximity and travel distance etc. Just which fan group you think you could get on with and which teams style of play would suit you.

I would go for Bristol City, always found there fans good fun and friendly. Play some attractive football and I do love an underdog that does cause some good upsets.

I'd either support Liverpool or Coventry. The first is where my mother's from, almost, well where she's from is Rugby League country and Coventry is my local team from where I grew up. I remember going to Coventry one day and they were playing Norwich, top of the table First division class that day many many years ago in the late 1980s.

Based on 2WW&1WC’s analogy of other home towns, I’d get to choose between Aldershot or Wolves - what a choice.

My Dad was a STH at Craven Cottage, so they are a possible

Never disliked Saints, but that’s more to do with my shared loathing of Pompey rather than actually liking them.

Shout out to the previous comment about Donny Rovers, Uni mate was one and had a couple of cracking away days with him and his Donny mates, very accepting of an alien southerner.

Don't really get the Charlton love. Besieged by off field problems and just a bit, well, tinpot.

Wouldn't be another current Championship club; it would be Spurs due to the fact my family is from North London.

In fact, I would probably be a Spurs fan right now had my Dad not moved to Reading when I was 2 and moved in literally across the street from Elm Park.

We used to leave the house for matches at 2:55pm, sometimes even walking across at half-time where the stewards would let you in for free. Halcyon days, eh

Basingstoke Town for home club, Oxford Utd for where I studied (If Royals didn't exist, this wouldn't be so bitter) then Crawley Town, Lewes or Brighton based on places lived. If none of those it would have been Man Utd as they first caught my imagination back in the day.

it would be Brentford for me. My Grandfathers team, and much like us 5-10 years ago.

NewCorkSeth Charlton.

Another one for the Addicks. Born in Gosport and grandad started taking me to Fratton Park, with the old man taking me to the Valley before we moved to the 'Ding when I was six.

50 years of pain later.....
