Silver Fox That's not always true and they won't be playing at home or away, they'll be playing at neutral venues

Why?
Unless the plan is for teams to play once a day for a week, where travelling would be a nightmare, what advantage does it offer?

They want to avoid fans gathering outside the stadium

Surely the Police could deal with that? Besides if the games are televised I can’t see why fans would need to gather outside a ground where there will be very little noise inside the stadium.

How many fans would gather outside a stadium if you couldn't see any of the game?

They don't want it to happen. Tbey can disperse but if 5000 Liverpool fans turn up at Anfield because Liverpool can win the league that day? Possible flash point and chance for virus to spread.

If you play at a neutral venue, you limit this possibility. Also worth not announcing where certain games will be. Set up the cameras at the designated stadiums in advance and first you know where a game is, is when Super Sunday starts.

If the games are only on Sky too, risk of house gatherings to watch key games must rise.

These are my key worries abt the Bundesliga starting. We already had fans gathering outside the one ghost game that was held & Sky are digging their heals in about letting games go free to air. The latter should be resolved by having the Konferenz free on Saturday afternoon's but the former is a worry given all stadiums will be used. Hopefully the controls mandating localised lockdowns will stop fans gathering, we'll see.

Fans of sport are a strange bunch.

We use our venue for camping for the Grand Prix.
Despite the event being 'No Spectators' we're still getting calls to ask if we're going to be open so that they can listen to the action.
What ? Why ? Just watch it on TV and turn the volume up to full

I see the apparently latest ruse to get the clubs to back playing is telling the 6 who are supposed holding out that if they do block it then a vote will be held to confirm that if the season can't restart, the current table will be used to define the relegation places.

Essentially telling Bournemouth, Villa and Norwich to agree to it and have a chance to save yourself or veto it and be relegated.

Can't see no relegation with promotion working - would end up with a very lopsided PL and even promoting Barrow and a play-off winner would leave L2 with 22 teams.

So in the PL, you'd have more games for the teams that don't need any potential gate money whilst in L2 teams that can barely afford it would lose 2 home games - yes guess they could promote 4 teams from non-league instead of 2 but then next year you'd have to filter teams back down again - so even though the Championship would remain at 24 teams, you would likely have to relegate 5 or 6 clubs so that you get back to 3 divisions of 24.

Unless of course, they use this as a perfect time to look at going back to regional divisions at L2 level at least.

I think we can cope with a 'lop sided' fixture list for a season. Or we should be able to, anyway. And yes, 2020/21 would see extra relegations. Or they could phase it over two seasons.

What's the betting that finish one place outside the reduced automatics again.

Since two up to the top division was introduced we're still the only team to finish second and not go up.

I'm not bitter

Leaked stuff from UKG today says that Premier League football back behind closed doors in OCTOBER !

Do we still think, if that’s right, that PL season will be completed ?

The Mirror were suggesting June. If it’s October then what are their intentions? If they look to finish this season first then it makes it nigh on impossible to then complete a full set of fixtures for the actual 20/21 season. Perhaps they intend to void this season then and look to complete a full set of fixtures for 20/21 but it will be tight.

Well, I think the only sensible solution is to chuck them all on planes and bring them to Perth. Its lovely.

A third Brighton player has caught the Covids aparently, that all seems very convenient to me

Also, it seems there are a few clubs down the bottom who only want to finish the season if there's no relegation, so they're clearly so very concerned about the integrity of the competition

League 2 vote to end the season using weighted PPG for the final table, which gives Swindon the title ahead of Crewe, but nobody misses out on promotion or playoff spots (playoffs still to be played) and Stevenage remain bottom

Broadly, for England too, I really don't understand why the promotion only model hasn't taken off. Is it really that difficult to make room for (say) two additional Premier League game weeks?

In Scotland, is the legal case that will no doubt follow really less of a ballache, and financial burden, than an 11-team SPL for a year?

It isn't difficult but when you have top managers already complaining about fixture congestion, the FA are probably quite reluctant to introduce it.

Premier League clubs have agreed to stage one of the return to training protocols which allows teams to start training in small groups from Tuesday.

Clubs voted unanimously on the decision at Monday's "Project Restart" meeting.

Players must observe social distancing rules, and contact training is not permitted.

The first stage "has been agreed in consultation with players, managers, club doctors, independent experts and the government".

The Premier League statement added: "Strict medical protocols of the highest standard will ensure everyone returns to training in the safest environment possible.

"The health and wellbeing of all participants is the Premier League's priority, and the safe return to training is a step-by-step process.

"Full consultation will now continue with players, managers, clubs, the PFA and LMA as protocols for full-contact training are developed."

Problem is, with just promotion you are opening up to legal cases. Who is to say over 9 games Leeds don't fall of a cliff again (like earlier this season) and say Fulham go past them - not beyond the realms of possibility that Fulham would sue to try and keep a chance of getting the PL money or at least stop someone else getting it. Any promotion/relegation without a finished season is going to be messy.
