Rumour - Olise to Celtic

Celtic place teenage Reading winger Michael Olise on list of potential transfer targets

Known to former Reading Director of Football Nicky Hammond, the 18-year-old had spells in the academies of Chelsea and Manchester City before joining Reading's academy scholarship programme. The winger signed a three-year professional contract last July.

Why would he want to drop to a lower standard, etc, etc....

Well I can`t imagine Celtic going anywhere near their record outlay which is a massive £9m so this is an absolute non story.

Celtic are notoriously tightfisted. Absolutely no way they'd stump up the required fee.

Any bid has to be stupid money. Otherwise they can oxf*rd off. Olise will probably be worth more in a couple of years time anyway, so good grounds to simply reject anything.

Known to Hammond? He left far too long ago to know next to anything about Olise other than scouting reports. It would be a sideways step in terms of level, but it would give him more exposure to use them as a springboard to something bigger and better. Just get a decent fee!

I know this seems unlikely and I would hate to lose him (I really rate him very highly) but Celtic would probably be a good move for him. Obviously as a stepping stone but it is still a great club.

sure it'd be a great move. Big crowds, european football (for a game or 2 anyway).

In the post virus world, just the sort of player I want us to keep hold of though

With Hammond doing the negotiations for Celtic, we will be ripped off. He done it to other teams FOR us, so I doubt that will stop him doing it TO us.

No reason we’ll be ripped off. He specialised in getting more money for players than we had any right to expect.

If he did go to Celtic it would need to be with a massive sell on clause because that is what they will be looking to do - keep him for 18 months then sell at a big profit.

Oooh boy, if we get a fat sell on clause that would be nice.

I'd also expect a hefty wedge of the sell on clause Celtic get when Southampton sell him to Liverpool for £150m in 4 years time.

I really dont think he'll go to Celtic. I'm sure Ovie can fill him in on what a shithouse league the SPL is.

Good move for him, bad move for us and no way Celtic can afford £3m - £5m for an 18 year old with limited Championship exposure.

No chance.

Yeah but they do love their French youngsters. Dembele, Ntcham, Edouard.. might be tempted.

He was born in England I think? Dunno, spoke to him once when the U23s were hanging round the bus outside the ED and he certainly didn't sound french in the slightest

I am guessing he has a French parent/grandparent(s) though as he played for France in the Toulon Tournament, I believe.

I meant it in the football sense rather than the real sense. I doubt he even speaks French..

Michael is eligible to play for France, Nigeria and England. He has been capped by France at U18 level and by England at U19 (v Qatar U23). His brother, Richard, has played for England youth.

For the record he is only 18 and has shown more promise when in the first team than Danny Loader so I’m surprised there’s not more clubs than Celtic being linked. Given what we’ve seen so far though, my guess is he will breakthrough fully to the first team next season and therefore the club will only sell if the fee offered is on the rather large and ridiculous size which I can’t see Celtic being able (or wanting) to afford. More likely that threat will emerge from one of the big six or so in the PL.

Michael is currently contracted until June 2022 so next year is going to be key for him to carry on his progression and for Reading to ensure he has another deal offered if that progression starts giving valuable return.

After the Danny Loader debacle, i hope the club have learnt their lesson and get a new contract sorted ASAP. This guy has shown far more promise than Loader ever did and i really do believe this guy could go on and have a special career.
If we could get another two seasons out of him and sell for a huge fee with add ons then we should be happy.
