MATCHWATCH : Brentford (h) sponsored by end of season apathy

by Sutekh » 27 Jun 2020 14:18

When : Tuesday 30th June, 6pm
Where : Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Difficult game. Be lucky to get much from this one given Brentford have won their last three games and have only lost once in ten. And when you add to that the failure to beat a poor Stoke and give away cheap goals at Derby then the levels of expectation aren’t going to be great.

Note the great kick off time for those that have to be in work on Tuesday.

Referee

Dean Whitestone

Previously

11 Jan 2020 > Reading 1-1 Nottm Forest
19 Oct 2019 > Reading 1-0 Preston North End
12 Aug 2018 > Reading 2-0 Birmingham City (League Cup)
05 Apr 2016 > Reading 2-1 Nottm Forest
22 Mar 2014 > Birmingham City 1-2 Reading
23 Aug 2011 > Charlton Athletic 2-1 Reading (League Cup)
22 Feb 2011 > Reading 2-1 Millwall
17 Feb 2010 > Crystal Palace 1-3 Reading
07 Nov 2009 > Reading 1-1 Ipswich Town
26 Aug 2008 > Reading 5-1 Luton Town (League Cup)

Historically

Brentford are one of the most common opponents for Reading with this game being the 88th time the clubs will have met in the league. Of the 42 league games played in Reading to date there have been 24 wins for the hoops compared to just 9 for the stripes.

However if you think that makes for an easy game then you might be in for a rude awakening as Brentford have won on four of their last six league visits, have scored at least two in four of those games and once in each of the others so not even a clean sheet has been kept by Reading in that time.

How to follow the game

  1. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  2. Ring/text a mate for updates
  3. Use an iFollow subscription
  4. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Just want to see a really committed performance from our forwards. We’re putting lots of good balls into the box but the forwards aren’t getting on the end of them. That has to change.

A match between how not to run a football club. And a club who do everything right we have lost millions they have made 50 million on transfers play attractive football and will at least be in the playoffs. Will be a humiliating evening for all concerned with Reading FC. A very easy win for Bees.

We either try Meite leading the line, which I'm not sure he's got the touch for, or we go 4-4-2. Puscas just looks lost up top and Baldock doesn't have what it takes for it either. Of course, 4-4-2's a shit, because we don't have a left winger, Puscas and Meite aren't suited together and we'd have to leave out at least one of Olise and Ejaria, if not both.

Brentford on a roll and it’ll certainly be a tough game. Not expecting to get much from it

The selection is a tough call tbh. I haven’t got a massive opinion on it. 90% of our players just seem to be basically the same standard and offer much the same as their competition in the squad

Lower West Little point in playing Pele. Not going to be around next season.

Let's get to mathematically safe first.

If we play "a bit soft" we could ship 4 goals on Tuesday.

For me I'd pay for a 0-0 draw with Pele helping the defence.

Once we are safe, totally safe, no questions, then start playing some kids

They are decent, not expecting anything from this. They seem to have tightened up at the back whilst retaining the flair going forward.

They are a very well run club and have shown all the failing over-spenders (I'd include us in that category sadly) what can be done with decent recruitment.

I'd really like to see them go up.

And their recruitment has to be good as they do not run an Academy. Give anything if their recruitment team would swap for whatever goes on at the Mad Stad these days.

Brentford would be good to see return the the top flight for the first time since their relegation back in 1946/47. For the record their highest ever finish was 5th in the top flight in 1936 and wiki records their highest place during a top flight season to be 1st which they managed to hold onto between October 1937 and February 1938.
