Relegated With Three Games To Go

Reading have been relegated from the Premier League after a 0-0 home draw against QPR. The league's bottom two clubs took each other down after Wigan picked up a point on Saturday. Reading and QPR are nine points adrift with 3 games to play. However, Wigan and Villa can't both be caught as they face each other on the last day of the season. That fixture could decide who joins Reading and QPR in the Championship next season.

A 0-0 draw was probably the most predicted result in a game between two sides who have consistantly failed to win in the Premier League this season. Both sides had a few chances to score but this was a scrappy game that looked more at place in the Championship than the Premier League. And that's how it will be next season.

This was a missed opportunity for Reading to move off the bottom of the table with the season running out. Reading are now ten games without a victory and QPR are on a run of six games without picking up a win. These were clearly the league's two worst sides and there can be no arguing about relegation with three games still left to play.

Reading's short return to the top tier of English football was expected to be tough but Reading crumbled dramatically after giving hints they might survive earlier in the year. In February a great run of games saw the Royals move out of the bottom three, only to see the current bad run condemn them to relegation with McDermott being given the boot. Adkins has failed to stop the rot in his five games in charge and it's all about next season now.
