It seems likely that Reading have essentially finalised the squad ready for the new Premier League season. It appears to have been a successful, and busy, summer of activity in the transfer market for the Royals with the arrivals of McCleary, Pogrebnyak, Guthrie, Gunter, Shorey and Mariappa. With Reading also able to retain the services of all key players from last season's Championship winning side we appear to be very well placed for the new season.
Meanwhile, both Reading FC and West Bromwich Albion have ruled out the possibility of striker Shane Long making a return to the Madejski Stadium. Long hit top form in his final season at Reading after originally signing in 2005 from Cork City. His form saw a transfer to Premier League side West Brom at the start of last season. He went on to score 8 goals in his first season at the club. There has been rumour all summer that Long might make a return but that seems unlikely.
