Reading are set to complete the signing of former Southampton and Fulham defender Chris Baird. Baird spent six years at Fulham after signing in the summer of 2007 for three million pounds from Southampton. As Baird is out of contract, having left Fulham in the summer, he is free to sign a new contract with the Royals. The signing will be seen as a success for Reading as he was expected to sign for promotion favourites QPR but negotiations saw him prefer a move to Berkshire.
The player is primarily a centre-back but has played across the defence, and made 27 appearances last season for club and country. He is a regular feature in the Northern Ireland side having picked up over 60 International caps. He scored for Fulham last October when his side visited the Madejski Stadium in the Premier League game that ended 3-3.
