I remember a Christmas away visit to Plymouth in 87. Gail force wind and horizontal rain blown into our faces for 90 minutes. We won 3-1. A repeat would be nice.Royal_jimmy wrote:Plymouth away on a Boxing Day is pretty disgusting. Long trip to do

So the draw was just for the PL U21 team? Obviously we play West Ham at home, when is it decided which of Swindon and MK is the away match?parky wrote:West Ham U21 complete our EFL Trophy group along with Swindon and MK

Last season Newport (4th tier) was the home game and Cheltenham (4th tier) was the away game. The season before Exeter (3rd tier) was away and Swindon (4th tier) was at home.Whore Jackie wrote:So the draw was just for the PL U21 team? Very bad trip however it was always a strong possibility. I know the EFL like to try and put Boxing Day matches in relatively close proximity and given how Northern the league is this year, realistically only ourselves, Cardiff or Wycombe were likely opponents (not including Exeter as they would never schedule a local derby on Boxing Day).Royal_jimmy wrote:Plymouth away on a Boxing Day is pretty disgusting. League 1 Boxing Day fixtures (obviously all 3pm, before any get buggered about with by SKY):RG30 wrote:Very bad trip however it was always a strong possibility. From a logistical point of view for the players it couldn't be much worse either. Presumably they will have Christmas Day morning off to spend with families, have a usual matchday -1 training session before travelling down Christmas Day afternoon before being in a hotel for the night?

Yup, the squad will probably have to report for a light training session around 1pm and then head down to Devon around 3pm on Xmas Day. Not funRG30 wrote:Very bad trip however it was always a strong possibility. As an aside, I used to go up Prospect Park and play footie with the Cooper bros. Adie, Paul and Leigh. The reason I mention this, is that Leigh went on to play professionally for Plymouth. Always remember that famous game, at Elm Park, where we beat them 4-3, after being 3-0 down at half time. Unbelievable stuff in the pouring rain. Not sure if it was the following season, however the Argyle came up and beat us 1-0. I saw Leigh after the game and he said "We owed you that one", with a cheeky smile on his face. Great lad. Very humble. From Despair To Where? wrote:I remember a Christmas away visit to Plymouth in 87. Gail force wind and horizontal rain blown into our faces for 90 minutes. We won 3-1. One of my favorite memories as a Reading fan was the Plymouth game! we got battered for 60mins and then one goal changed the whole game. Amazing atmosphere in the South Bank for the last 30minsThe Cap wrote:As an aside, I used to go up Prospect Park and play footie with the Cooper bros. Adie, Paul and Leigh. Just shows how the memory can fool you. I don't remember it raining but cold. And the South Bank was rocking but half empty by the time Deano scored the first from the spot, 2 x senior service and then my all time favourite Kevin Bremner scoring the winner (i thought sliding in from the far post but was probably a header lol. Walked back into town and got absolutely smashed. The Cap wrote:Crowbar6753 wrote:One of my favorite memories as a Reading fan was the Plymouth game! we got battered for 60mins and then one goal changed the whole game. 100%. Never gone home from a game so pissed wet through, with the biggest smile on my chops. I say pissed wet through, as a few of us were in the town end. Nothing unusual there. The bank was definitely rocking and looking over to cheer us boys as well. Happy days.

With you here Traff regarding the weather, a cold dreary day as far as i remember! I was fairly young then 16 i think lol. 8500 in attendance so a decent turnout but cannot remember the crowd leaving early.traff wrote:Just shows how the memory can fool you. Fair play lads. Weather wise it was clearly a different game on a different day. I'll go with cold and dreary then. Great come back all the same.Crowbar6753 wrote:With you here Traff regarding the weather, a cold dreary day as far as i remember!
