Re: The only slightly more advanced than shots/possession statistics thread

how do we compare this season (and the previous one) compared to last in terms of the XG - assuming its a fair bit better The numbers vary by model, but the easiest dataset to answer that with is the fivethirtyeight , which is slightly more pessimistic this season than the figures from infogol, wys...

Re: The only slightly more advanced than shots/possession statistics thread

It's been a while since I last looked in detail at how our underlying numbers were looking this season, and conveniently Oli Walker has done a better job than I could in a StatsBomb article "Diving to the depths of the Championship relegation battle" Firstly, its very refreshing to not be ...

Re: Rival Watch

How bad are Middlesbrough?! Their last win was when they beat us back in September and they have a stack of tough games coming up. If they fail to beat Barnsley at home on 27th November, does Jonathan Woodgate go? Almost certainly. A club like that he's probably already on borrowed time. You can te...

Re: Sone Aluko to China!

Well, from what I recall of Fulham that season, Aluko played very narrow for Fulham (like an attacking midfielder but drifted over to the right side) with the width on the right side coming from the overlapping Fredericks. Factor in Piazon also played a similar role to Aluko I the left hand side an...

Re: Keogh, I hear there might be an explicit FPP element too it too. Sacking him takes his wages off the books and if he wins his appeal that would be paid out of costs excluded from FPP calculations (presumably legal expenses rather than footballing operations). If FPP is the constraint they are up...

Re: Ex Players

Stam struggling at Feyenoord, 2-0 defeat at Young Boys today. Seems they're giving away cheap goals regularly, begs the question has he learnt from his time here? At least they had 63% of the ball though :? Reportedly now sacked following the 4-0 loss to Ajax (4-0 at HT too), leaving Feyenoord 12th...

Re: Ejaria vs Siggy

Obviously Sig. But on Swift v Ejaria - both are very good at what they do (ball progression), and have different skillsets. Whether its the change in shape, fitness, or just coincidence, Swift has stepped it up this season and both are performing very highly. I think Ejaria stands out because his sk...

marlowuk BBC reporting that WBA have only had 1 shot on target to our 5.

None of their shots in the first half were inside the box either

Re: Will we get found out again?

I said on the Wycombe match thread that I wanted to reserve judgement until we actually took the lead in a game - the transfer activity suggested we are building a team that will be dangerous on the counter with fast interplay through the middle - any width will come from full/wing backs rather than...

I'm going to reserve full judgement until I see what we are capable of doing when we go 1-0 up in a game.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Platypuss If you think we're bad at playing out from the back then check out our goals in the Newcastle game!

My favourite bit was the NUFC CB berating his colleagues for giving the ball away for one of the early goals, then proceeding to so the exact same thing.

A good win but they looked woeful

Re: José Gomes whelmguage

I'm still not drinking the Koolade. I found his post match on Saturday a bit Adkins-esque. We train well, we have good movement, we were positive, etc etc but the reality was we didn't play well nor create enough chances. I think with this transfer investment and chicanery by Uncle Dai & Big Ni...

Re: CONFIMRED - Ovie Ejaria

I still don;t understand about 10 days ago we were under a soft embargo, and now we've spent millions in fees and wages, without really letting anyone go, well certainly not in the numbers we were expecting. Is Mr Dai going shot or bust, hoping to get out of the Chump and so escape any retribution ...

Re: CONFIMRED - Ovie Ejaria

I think this will prove one of the more shrewd signings of this window. We have signed a lot of players ahead of midfield in Boye, Joao and Puscas but still looked light for players getting the ball into the final third, which mostly rested on Swift and potentially Olise. Looking forward to many mor...

Re: Rumour: Lucas Joao

Viewed as a JDB replacement, this is probably an upgrade.

I'm not convinced we will pay anything near £5m, the rumours seem to suggest there are loads of add ons for lofty goal targets, making team of the season etc. If we end up paying those then he will have been worth every penny

Re: Where will we finish?

I'm guessing Charlton (no money, lost couple of their best players - Bielik and Bauer), and possibly Wigan (no signings, lost James and Powell) could really struggle Wigan have left their business late, but it looks like some quite smart signings in the 48 hours: - Joe Williams is a promising holdi...
