Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

If you wanted a manager to get you out of L1 then Parky is your man - if he succeeds, next year will be the real test of his abilities.

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

the bloke on twitter who 'broke' the sacking said that Hughton was going to be asked to replace him, so would tie in with that as well So if true - seems like the timeline as we know it is: - Gomes sacked - Hughton identified as #1 target by Bowen/owners - Hughton approached and some talks may have...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Saw that. Been nice for JLow to have named names just for our interests sake Wonder if it was Hughes - thought JLow hinted at him originally There is of course the chance JLow is completely makign up this information. I would lean towards Hughes if it is true though. Bowen probably would have put h...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Is some of the reaction due to constantly being lied to (Trump, Johnson etc.) meaning that trust is now an obsolete word? I wondered if someone would bring this up - I can see why that may be the case but the big difference is there is tons of proof that both Trump and Johnson are liars so it is fa...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

JLow on the Elm Park Royals podcast stating that we did approach one manager who turned us down so may well be that we had a #1 target and when we couldn't get him the board decided the best approach was to give it to someone already at the club to avoid a lengthy delay in appointing someone - cert...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Some superb narrative has been concocted with this appointment, and in true Reading fans fashion there has been an absolute meltdown. Jose was quite rightly sacked because he oversaw a transfer window where we spent big, and all the signals were pointing towards us not getting out of the losing run...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Let us just say he wasn't involved in sacking Jose, and didn't marginalise him in any way. He wasn't involved in appointing himself i.e. putting himself forward. Jose was genuine in his 'glowing reference' (i'm sure he wasn't going to badmouth a current employee when his friends are there and he's ...

Re: Footballing philosophy

Does anyone know what Bowen's footballing principles are? He used the word 'pragmatic' in one of the (pretty poor actually) interviews on social media, as well as intensity and enthusiasm. Am I reading too much into this and thinking we will be more direct? I'd be interested in any thoughts on what...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Einstein agogo who does Bowen's job now?

Whoever they employ to do it. We went a few months without one between Nani leaving and Bowen taking on the role officially so may be a while again until that gap is filled.

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

He also came in as part of Jose’s management team early this year with a particular emphasis on looking at the opposition and helping set up Reading to be effective on the day and this was generally successful so he has some nous about him I'm sorry, but how was this generally successful? Surely if...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

I seem to remember when BM MK1 took over we put a 10 straight win run together didn't we? Winless in his first 5 then went on a run of 8 wins in 9 in the league but knocked Liverpool out of the cup during the rocky start in the league. Ah, cheers......Well if he can achieve that Ill be happy..........

Re: Next Manager

I like the narrative, but the gap is around who judged him to be a good appointment. Who at "the Club" did he impress? Howe is a businessman, as are Joorabchian and the Dai's. We had somebody from a footballing background to assess candidates and it was Bowen, but he can't objectively ass...

Re: Next Manager

Or that following the shoddy process of hiring Gomes, the club decided to get some form of succession planning in place so brought Bowen in as a consultant initially to see how he works - they liked what they saw so created a new role for him to have more of a say in transfer dealings and all footb...

If it tells one thing, it's how unattractive we are to good experienced managers. Or that following the shoddy process of hiring Gomes, the club decided to get some form of succession planning in place so brought Bowen in as a consultant initially to see how he works - they liked what they saw so c...
