Re: Reading FC team of the decade

Can't be @rsed to look back to see if anyone has included him, but the correct answer to the "Best Goalkeeper?" question is Emiliano Martinez. Absolutely hands down(/up) Head and shoulders above the next few, which would prolly be AAH and then a penalty-area toss up between Fedders and Ale...

Re: Next Manager

Heard Hughton on a talkSPORT phone in prolly a month ago where he talked about his potential 'next role' - and iirc it sounded very much like he was prepared to hold out for a Prem job (or at the very least a club with a significant chance of being back there in the short term). Obvs his perspective...

Re: Next Manager

I'm strangely warming to the probability without being a massive supporter of it as a move. I think that would sum up my feelings to it. One thing that the last 4 managers have in common is they all seem proper decent guys. Everyone who knew or met Stam loved him, know people who worked with him pr...

Re: Pre season tour

Any opinion on Adam's set pieces? We've been awful at them (especially corners) since Ian Harte died. I saw Meite win a couple of headers from well-delivered corners on the highlights, but couldn't see who took them.

Also - could one of Morrison, Miazga or McIntyre play a holding midfield role?

Re: Champions League & Europa League 2018/19

Not a fan of either side. It's amazing how much things can change in 12 months - this time last year it was Trippier who was the "world-class" full back that everyone was raving about. This year he doesn't even get a mention in these "best of both team" discussions, and it's the ...

Re: Ex Players

Iirc we gave Yann an extension before he'd returned fròm injury. Called out as daft at the time. Didn't Yann then decide to call it a day anyway so never actually took up the extension. Maybe... I've lost track of the years. Was that the opposite of Jason Roberts - who knew he was crocked, but trig...

Winston Biscuit Juventus' form since winning the league has been abysmal. 1 win in the last 6 and 4 wins in the last 10.

WRT the whole "tiered-replica thing - i found this out to my cost on Jnr Braisers last birthday. He wanted an NBA shirt of his favourite player and being utterly clueless I got suckered into the whole "but the next one up is the authentic material..." thing, and went from the Standard...

Re: Championship free agents... who would you have?

Jack Rodwell Josh McEachran Eight or nine years ago, those two (and Wilshere) were the future of England's midfield. Think something's gone badly wrong with Rodwell, whereas McEachran has a better chance of flourishing in the right environment. Anyone having watched the Sunderland documentary would...

Wayne Routledge?

Better record than Leroy Fer and an upgrade on McCleary. Seems to still be playing plenty of games consistently.

Re: RFC to become the 4th...

Is “The league” still a thing in this context, why such a cutoff between division 4 and the conference? Presumably used to be an amateur/professional thing but those lines are blurred now, as are associations running the things following the formation of the premier league. Maybe it's a branding th...

Royal Rother Yep, at circa £25m a year wages Sanchez has to go down as one of the worst pieces of business ever done in football.

Snowflake Royal Nice.

The lady he presented the flowers to sorts out the goalkeeper's jerseys for him. Apparently they are all long-sleeved, and Martinez prefers playing in short sleeves, so she alters them for him.

Re: The Non - League thread

Might have been noted already, but Basingstoke went down having score 81 league goals, the seventh highest in the division. Unfortunately they conceded 82, which is more than anyone but hapless Staines. Outrageous that this team got themselves relegated. Poorly run, now no ground and only one step ...

Re: Financial Fair Play

From what I’ve heard, our perilous financial situation is going to scupper our chances of signing any of the loan players  Surely if we sell off the likes of Swift and Aluko there may be some funds available. Nope - the black hole is back. Haven't you heard? It's all over the news. If you look...

Re: Sensible Option: Adam Federici

Agree that Feds would be a significant upgrade on what we have now, but think it's probably quite rare to loan in a first choice keeper in January? You're basically telling the existing 2/3 keepers that they have no future at the club. Regarding Alex Pearce (as also mentioned on this thread) - he ha...
