Re: New Owners - Redwood Watch

It’s tricky to judge with the window yet to close, but selling one of our few creatives while seemingly struggling to get goal-scorers through the door seems crazy. I guess the plan is probably to cash in on our middle where we have the most depth and reinvest further forward. Gutted to lose Knibbs,...

Re: Show me the money

I sympathise with the view that making loan signings is just kicking the can down the road, but I do think it can be seen as having a decent placeholder while young homegrown talent gets up to speed, and books are balanced to be more aggressive in the transfer market in the future. Loans aren’t idea...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Mansfield Town (a)

like that they seem properly happy Bodin's scored. ^^^ yeah, was really good to see. same with Pereira joining in the celebrations for Wing's goal. Knibbs was brilliant. Obviously with the unselfish assist, but gesturing at us to join them on the pitch given that Bodin had actually scored. Him, Mbe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wrexham (h)

Royal Ginger Parky obviously criticised the ref for the penalty but also mentioned the sending off in the same breath.

Right or wrong, it was certainly an odd one that is rarely enforced.

Second yellow for time wasting would be harsh enough, but it was hardly any time at all.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wrexham (h)

stealthpapes
Norwich get an assist from the ref, chests down the ball for a Norwich player to volley the ball into the top corner from outside the area.

Took my ex-missus to that game, she had a whale of a time.

Big lass, is she?

Re: MATCHWATCH : Exeter City (h)

Could be the threadbare squad that leads to us struggling in weekday games that don’t leave much recovery time. Though we also seem to fluff our lines in games that we presume should be an easier win (typically home games against the lower table). Might be that we thrive off being the underdog. Or t...

Yeah, big fan of Chem. Might be a reach, but if he’s willing to re-sign maybe things aren’t completely going to shit and other players might stick around too.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Lincoln City (a)

I watched on Sky and thought at first we looked like we were pressing pretty well. Then I read we weren’t and wondered if I even really knew what pressing meant. Some lass on BBC Berks said we had “no shape”. Again, I didn’t think our shape looked that different to the one under Selles. Then I wonde...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Lincoln City (a)

Yeah, the performances and results have been a welcome distraction from the existential crisis and felt like a lifeline keeping us together. I had hoped that the magic of Selles was mostly a psychological thing that Hunt could replace; neither manager to me seem like tactical powerhouses and Reading...

Re: You're the new Owner - What's your 2 Year Plan for Success

One good thing to come from all this, specifically the restrictions on transfers, is the mounting evidence the proves you don’t really need to throw money at a revolving door ideology where players and managers are concerned. You give people enough time and they find their feet, bond, and wring more...

Re: Boycott

I've been boycotting Reading football matches for about three years now and I find that not having to spend time with other Reading fans and not having to watch Reading play football has made me much, much happier. You should try going along to a game or two of rugby - higher class fans at a higher...

Re: BFTG - Wimbledon away (pre-season friendly)

Ian; Playing to the strengths of the academy, of whom may make up at most 2/11 players in the side, at the expense of the other 9, seems like a good way to fail. Maybe it's the football we want. But we need the players for it and we don't keep them long enough to move beyond the first stage of evolu...

Re: BFTG - Wimbledon away (pre-season friendly)

A club that can't compete in the transfer market should be playing to the strengths of the players, the manager adapting the style to them, not the players adapting to the style of the managers. There is a reason a team with Readings budget has performed better with a faster, more direct, counter-at...

Re: BFTG - Wimbledon away (pre-season friendly)

Didn't suggest it wasn't. Point still stands though and we've had this situation before under Adkins and Rodgers where we're trying to play like other clubs instead of concentrating on our own strengths. Playing possession football badly does not mean you should stop trying to play possession footb...

Re: What are your expectations for this season? (with poll)

I'm with genome - getting a kinda good vibe. The signings being made are my type of signings. Okay, no bank breakers or 'on the radar' names but long term, young, cost effective, hungry promise with a future ahead of them. Much prefer that to your has-beens, old duffers and short term loans. I also ...

Gunter: alright footballer, probably at our level, difficult to judge over his time with us as we have been a shambles side, looks better in a more coherent team like Wales. As does HRK. I don't think either of them are stars but they are better than they seem with us. You could argue that they a co...

bobby1413 He doesn't look like a footballer. He looks like a plumber or something.

I'm out

I would say he has a touch of the painters & decorators about him.

Aye, he does look rather moody
