Re: Rival Watch

Hendo
Stranded It's over. Burton & Vale can't lose another game and still go past us.

Agree, the win on Tuesday sealed it for me.

The way the players and the staff celebrated after the game on Tuesday night, they clearly think that they have done enough to stay up.

Re: Ex Players

At the game last night, I heard that Jamie Cureton has Motor Neurone disease; terrible news if true. Maybe they were getting confused with Marcus Stewart? Ex Rovers striker who had a fund raiser recently for it alongside Stephen Darby. Ah - bollox; pleased for Jamie; sad for Marcus Stewart (w...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol Rovers (a)

Last night was hugely enjoyable - and not just because we won. Great to go to an old school football ground, with old school fans whilst standing on a proper terrace again; loved it! From where I was just behind the dug outs, the noise by our away fans was exceptional; a lot or grudging nods of appr...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

This quote today on the BBC Sport website from Andros Townsend really hacks me off, and demonstrates the arrogance of the whole of the Premier League..... "Townsend said he thinks clubs had not anticipated that punishments for breaching the rules would be "this severe". "Everton ...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

The thing with something being "theoretical" is that it could happen; so if we win twice (tomorrow and Saturday) we would have 52 points. In the event that Port Vale, Cheltenham and Fleetwood lose both their games midweek and Saturday, none of them can get more than 50 points, which means ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol Rovers (a)

Looking forward to going to this game tomorrow night; in the home standing area behind the dug outs (I am going with a Rovers' supporting colleague) so should be fun.

His verdict on Rovers is that they are already mentally on the beach.

3-0 Reading win for me.

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

I don't know whether it was more civil back then or people are just more prepared to call shit out now. That Spacey "gaylord" comment being a case in point. I think if someone posted that now, plenty would tell him to fcuk off with the homophobia. I also remember SROT being an obnoxious b...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

WestYorksRoyal For those interested, Opta think we only have a 2.9% chance of relegation. I wish I shared their confidence.

Well, a few have posted that we are "90%" there, so a bit less optimistic than Opta.

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Leicester made a £90m pre-tax loss last season, despite extending their financial year by a month in order to include the Maddison transfer fee in that season's accounts. They made a gross loss of £124m. Their total losses for their last 3 seasons in the Premier League totalled more than £215M; the...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

What about Off at Eleven (OAE)? I vaguely remember that, but not what format it took. I first signed up to this portal when it was a shade of pale blue and lots of cascading messages down the page like a Windows Explorer tree, with titles of "X" then "Re: X" then "Re: Re: X...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

I'd hope that there is something built in re the possibility of relegation and the final price, given when exclusivity was announced we were only 6 points above the drop zone with 2 more games to go than today We're all speculating. But relegation definitely increases the risk of it falling through...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

There is a world of difference between a player being encouraged to consider a new career post-retirement, and someone who has a full time job and plays professional football as their 2nd job. Also, if you look at your employment contract there is almost certainly a clause in it preventing you from ...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

When there were two types of leagues there wasn't any semi professional teams as no player was allowed to be paid in the amateur clubs/league. There were allowed to be paid for "expenses", which I think became such a minefield that Amateur was dropped by the FA and allowed all clubs to pa...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

What nobody knows is how important the magic number is. 2 months ago, 99% of the fan base would have snapped your hand off for L2 but a new owner in for next season. With the deal supposedly closer, how important is staying up? Is relegation merely bad or existential? Bad. It means the owners have ...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Good to read the above exchanges, as it shows that there is nothing leaking out from the exclusivity process. We just have to let them get on with it and we will hear any news as and when. Hopefully the team can perform on the pitch and stay up, as I suspect relegation might cause a re-think from th...
