Re: Gone for a Burton, Back from the game thread

I think Henry is being 're-positioned' as he's not going to get in as a RW now.

Mooney and Bignall better than expected, Siggi's goal top drawer. Last 10 minutes utterly boring and an insult to those who had bothered to turn up. Surprised Antonio didn't get a run out.

Re: Mick Gooding to tone down his accent?

After enough years of good old Mick can't we PLEASE have someone different. He's getting almost as boring as the dickheads texting from the car park.

Re: Brendan's Babes - youngest ever starting eleven???

Prolly the ghastly XI that lost 2-4 to Colchester in 1972. Very sadly, I remember that shocking performance. I was sitting in 'A' stand close to a very, very fat bloke from Colchester. Last home game of the worst season in the club's history although assuaged by the FA Cup run. So bad it's seared i...

You have to have a beard on the day. It's the law and it has to be in keeping with the designated theme - e.g. Middle Eastern prophets.

Obviously in post 9/11 world we'd all be shot leaving the R&T.

Re: Historic Transfer Fees

Does anybody know of a website dedicated to listing historic transfer fees paid for players? I'm trying to create a history of all the transfer fees of all our players over their whole careers, and am coming up short. Soccerbase is OK as far back as the late 1990's, but after that I'm reduced to sc...

Re: Reading at Maidstone FA Cup 1988

In the case of Maidstone it was a little more complicated than that as their London Road ground didn't have enough space in the perimeter (of the land they owned) around the stadium to pass football league safety standards. So they had to get out of that ground somehow... Before they introduced the...

Re: Johnstone's Paint Trophy - Vacated!

What Stranded said. I was citing an example of something similar happening, so Luton couldn't complain. The fact that it is a different competition doesn't really disprove my point. At least the League are showing consistency. IIRC we moaned about this in 1988 becasue it's doesn't seem right that c...

Re: Tranter

I think the going rate for a statue is probably £60-80,000 and a bit of a risk if you recall the Ted Bates monster down at St Mary's. The only way a statue would get funded (whoever it was) would be by public subscription - you'd need fund-raising like the WAGS year one effort for charity. Can't rec...

For reference, the Maurice Evans plaque just has his dates and the epitaph:

Player. Manager. Gentleman.

FYI Trant's dates - 1932-2008

Re: Biggest Rivals

Stoke I'm working it out on the basis of which clubs have we played most often in LEAGUE matches in the past 20 years. Any guesses? Stoke? Well done - Stoke clearly the most frequent rival - 15/20 seasons (plus both cups in that time). PNE, Wigan - 11/20 Sheff U, Burnley 10/20 Millwall, Hudders - 9/...

Terminal Boardom Has anyone mentioned Barry Town away in the cup 84/85? That was one scary place and scary afternoon!

Er, basically it was Cardiff away with virtually no police and no segregation. In the 80s. And we won, undeservedly, in the last minute.

loyalroyal4life I think peterborough chairman made a fair point about us making an approach to interview ferguson as opposed to offering him a job!!

compare it to the steve bruce and sunderland job

I thought the Posh chairman was incredibly uppity. Seems to think his club is the equal of ours

Re: German sub sinks Exeter

It's a copy of -

'GERMANS' JAP SUB SINKS FOREST'

1979 - Euro Cup semi v Koln (?) 3-3 - Okodera (??). A rival paper ran with 'BLACK FOREST'.

Forest then shocked the world by winning the 2nd leg, which wasn't done in those days.

West Stand Man PS I was one of the 85k people on the South Bank for that match. We had a crowd of 2M in that evening - it was great.

And if we'd been playing Brighton it would have been 4.5million.

Re: Did you see that Tranmere game?

What was the attendance of the Tranmere game with THAT Robin Friday goal? I'd like to know simply because I swear there are a greater number fans claiming to have seen it. I wish I could have seen it. Instead I just try and piece it together in my head based on what I hear people say. I'm sure I'll...
