Re: Congratulations, you are the new Reading manager

I would tell the owners from the start that i'm planning for the long term. Don't expect any major success in at least the first couple of seasons. If you're going to sack me if I lose a few games in a row then don't bother hiring me in the first place. My goal is to slowly build up a team of playe...

Re: Mark Bowen Whelmgauge

It's fairly similar to Gomes. An appointment that doesn't seem to make much sense from the outside - but you just let the club get on with it and see how he does.

The only problem being that Reading fans will start crying if he loses 3 games in a row at any point . . . .

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

So - given that the guy is an inexperienced manager, does this mean fans will give him more time or less? If we are still in the relegation zone at Christmas do we say "Well, gave him a chance but he's obviously no good" or "He's obviously going to need a bit of time to get the hang o...

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

Gomes' appointment was a complete mystery that proved to be a mistake.

This one isn't far off - at least he understands the English game. But surely we could have gotten someone with direct experience at our level?

Re: Next Manager

Just picking up on the knowing of this division being important, take a look at the top where a certain Slaven Bilic is doing ok having previously managed at international level and then getting sacked by West Ham. Most managers, even some of the very best, get the sack during their careers so IMHO...

Re: GOMES OUT!

I'm assuming that no one was calling for Gomes to be sacked after we beat Huddersfield 2-0 away? So we're talking about a change of mind after 6 matches . . . . 6 matches . . . which include two away games against teams currently in the top six (one of which we drew). Look - I thought that hiring th...

I heard the same thing from a separate source. Might all be coming from the same rumour mill - but mine wasn't twitter.

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

I've always believed that unless a team is under real threat of relegation - or that there is something blindingly obviously wrong at the club - that a manager should always be given two full season. Though, I also believe that you shouldn't hire managers that have no record of experience at your le...

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

I haven't seen any of the games this season, so I can't comment on performance. But overall i'd say that results are disappointing but not really surprising given the circumstances. I don't think fans appreciate just how difficult it is to get an entirely new team to perform. Go and look back at the...

Re: GOMES OUT!

Are you guys being serious with this or just blowing off steam? Because .. . . if you can't handle a bad few weeks then it might be time to shut RFC down as there's no point carrying on. You'll never be pleased. It's not just a bad few weeks though, is it? It's a bad 2 and a half years... patience ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Middlesbrough (a) sponsored by a Simon Cox chip

Was anyone really expecting an entirely new team to be consistently good straight-away?

Other clubs in the past have spent far more money than us, with much more experienced managers than us, and still struggled for the first few seasons.

sandman Anyone else getting the feeling that whilst Gomes was the one to bring back some positivity to the club he may not be the one to take it to the next stage?

Re: Have we sold the Mad Stad to the owners/someone else?

The situation is like if you had your own plumbing company and (for some reason) decided to buy the van that the 'company' owns. Technically speaking, your company has exchanged an asset for cash and this impacts tax and whatever. But in the real-world, you still have the same van that you can use w...

Club are offering free travel so you could effectively go away and watch your team, who are showing good signs, play away at Huddersfield for £30. And people complain. If it was £25 People wouldn't be complaining so you're basically quibbling over a fiver which is less than a pint. Our fans are a j...
