Re: BFTT Barnsley

At this stage we just want to be beating the bottom half of the table at home and drawing against them away.

That's how you avoid relegation.

Re: BFTG Birmingham

Well, assuming we continue to win most of the games we should do, we should have enough leeway this season to play around a bit with the team. I'd rather us finish 18th, having experimented and taken risks, then grind out results Stam era-wise and finish 8th. You'd rather finish 18th than 8th.........

Re: MATCHWATCH : Birmingham City (h) sponsored by Martin Hicks

Did it seem like the team missed Obita?

I'm very much in the camp that he is the only Championship standard defender in the squad. Though I haven't watched that many games this season - so that might be unfair.

Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw

What would be the 'worst' ties we could get, in terms of general interest?

I guess a repeat of whatever league game is before or after the tie?

Re: FA Cup 3rd Round Draw

I have a feeling that a cup run is going to be the only potential bit of excitement for the rest of this season. One of the few this millennia where we're unlikely to get involved in either a promotion or relegation battle. Puscas scoring a hattrick in 4 minutes wasn't exciting for you? Hence, 'res...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Leeds United (h) sponsored by nothing to lose

Hopefully people can acknowledge that Bowen taken over didn't suddenly transform us into a title-winning side. We've got a decent, fairly well balanced squad. But it's going to take time for some players to get up to speed and for a consistently good team to emerge. Hopefully by Easter we'll be winn...

Yeah . . .frustrating, but kind of makes sense. Always more likely we would lose than not.

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

I see the Leeds fans are crying again about only having an allocation of 2,200 for our game in November. Nice work Club1871  Although a few Leeds fans have already said they’re going in the home end so should be another interesting one... Leeds fan I know in the home end last year, cheered whe...

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

Green I'm hearing rumours of a station pub to be opened, that could sweeten the deal for the bus lot.

Re: Green park station/south Reading station

For people travelling from the town centre and back - does this provide any real benefit over the bus?

Re: QPR H Boxing day now 7.30pm live on SKY

I expect that some families will prefer this timing as it lets them visit relatives, or have people over, before heading off to the game. And it's not like the kids have to get up the next day. Also, the drinking brigade will get a long stint in the pub before heading up. I suspect it's not great fo...

Re: Have we sold the Mad Stad to the owners/someone else?

yeah 20m for that site seems basically reasonable to me. Be surprised if we get done for anything too untoward Didn't it cost us more to build? It can't have depreciated that much. Building a new one would cost loads more. A reasonable question might be would we be able to sell it to an independent...

Re: Congratulations, you are the new Reading manager

I would tell the owners from the start that i'm planning for the long term. Don't expect any major success in at least the first couple of seasons. If you're going to sack me if I lose a few games in a row then don't bother hiring me in the first place. My goal is to slowly build up a team of playe...

Re: Mark Bowen Whelmgauge

It's fairly similar to Gomes. An appointment that doesn't seem to make much sense from the outside - but you just let the club get on with it and see how he does.

The only problem being that Reading fans will start crying if he loses 3 games in a row at any point . . . .

Re: CONFIMRED - Mark Bowen

So - given that the guy is an inexperienced manager, does this mean fans will give him more time or less? If we are still in the relegation zone at Christmas do we say "Well, gave him a chance but he's obviously no good" or "He's obviously going to need a bit of time to get the hang o...
