Re: The Bundesliga Hobnob battle thread 19/20

I really enjoy Erling Haaland's monosyllabic interviews.

Interviewer: <long spiel about first game back, got a goal, relief etc etc> ... despite no crowd you went to the corner to celebrate.
Haaland: 'why not?'
Interviewer: 'did your celebration mean something in particular?'
Haaland: 'Yes.'

Re: 2019/20 Season - How will it end?

Scottish Premier League season ended, with Celtic crowned champions and Hearts relegated. Hearts are now considering taking legal action against the SPFL Broadly, for England too, I really don't understand why the promotion only model hasn't taken off. Is it really that difficult to make room for (...

Ascotexgunner Liverpool fans will no doubt pour into the streets when they win it, give each other coronavirus and there will be deaths. Nothing new their with their record of being involved in fan deaths.

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

One I remember vividly was Thierry Henry. I remember when they beat us 4-0 that was the only time I've ever watched Reading be dismantled by a player and a team. He is the best player I've seen play with my eyes live. Yep, was the first one that sprung to mind. To be honest the whole Arsenal team w...

Re: The Bundesliga Hobnob battle thread 19/20

Interesting then that Dresden's position could actually get better by not playing, on the basis that they would then settle things on PPG. Dresden are bottom on GD, but will move up the table on PPG if the likes of Bochum and Wiesbaden lose matches.

Re: 2019/20 Season - How will it end?

I think we can cope with a 'lop sided' fixture list for a season. Or we should be able to, anyway. And yes, 2020/21 would see extra relegations. Or they could phase it over two seasons.

Forbury Lion Ricky Newman

Great shout. A poor man's everyone, who more often than not would put in a 6.5/10 performance. No frills whatsoever, but didn't need them.

Re: Worst Reading Player

Hughes played with a lot of heart and would run all day, but was bang bang average. He was a modern day Karacan. Again, someone who could in no way be described as a bad player. There's a lack of awareness, particularly in regard to younger players (like Karacan, or Hughes when he joined), is that ...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Amazed nobody has mentioned Andy Hughes, he was truely dreadful. The time he played behind Forster in 4-5-1 formation excludes him from this discussion. Ah, the age old Andy Hughes debate. In fact, football fans in general who get a chip on their shoulder about individual players. Hughes was no Pel...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Not our worst ever player by any means but for the sake of a different name, Rowan Liburd didn't look suited to league football at all in his three brief appearances for the club. Had all the physical attributes to be a Jason Roberts-type striker, but the balls just bounced off of him. He's now at H...

Enjoying reading traditional 'football arguments' about home/away advantage during what is a totally unprecedented situation. Guess what? That means that any solution is going to have to be unprecedented too. Also enjoying ascot openly grinding his axe whilst trying to take the high ground on this. ...

Sutekh Graeme Jones gone from Luton. Nathan Jones favourite to (re)take over.

How long has he been gone?

Bizarre. Have suspected for a long time that Stoke is a club sick inside and out. Nathan Jones had a 51% win record at Luton. Left for Stoke in Jan-19, where he won just six of 38 matches.

The massive flaw in this plan is that our Big 6 would never agree to it. But if they hypothetically did, the rest of the world could well follow.

For a wage cap to be effective, it would be well below the wages paid of even mid-table top-tier clubs, nevermind the big ones.

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

Wage caps would need to be global Enforce one here and everyone would disappear to countries where there wasn’t one. It’s why so many overseas players are in England’s - there is a differential between what they earn here and what they earn in the rest of the world. Now it might be a good thing to ...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

It’s really disappointing to see that playing staff are being asked to ‘defer’ their pay, but non-playing staff furloughed with a 20% cut in income, never to be seen again. My wife works for a Championship club and I've long been aghast at the total separation of the club's finances between playing...
