Re: England - the future....

It'll be players, like Sancho, who are brought up away from the English game that will get there first, imho. Germany may become a good finishing school for young English talent but for the likes of Sancho their formative years are still over here. Interestingly I think Germany have suffered a simi...

Re: England - the future....

We don't have a Xavi or Pirlo, so Southgate will need some time to try players in different midfields until we find a formula that works Defintiely agree with this. Henderson and Rice doesn't really work for me. Rice is someone you'd potentially add to a midfield if you're 2-0 with 70 minutes gone ...

Re: England - the future....

I think the line 'Winks should surely be playing' is enough of a free pass for Southgate on our midfield. I'd agree that it didn't really work last night, and Henderson and Rice were trying to do too similar jobs, I'd also agree with the above that as a key part of the European Champions' midfield, ...

Re: England - the future....

First official game ever was in 2014. The rankings are a rolling calculation. Of course they'll be ranked badly at the start. Sure. I'm not sure what point you're making. It's a rolling four-year calculation, so their shit(er) results in 14/15 are now dropping off. I think its fairly obvious. Of f ...

Re: England - the future....

I was confidently telling the missus that we're playing the group's weakest side on Tuesday (she was asking why the Kosovo game is being played at St. Mary's) and then I read that they are unbeaten in 15 games. They haven't really played anyone of note - their 2-2 draw with Denmark probably their b...

Hendo Huddersfield fined £50k for their Paddy Power stand in pre-season.

Which as Paddy Power highlighted, is five times more than Millwall were fined for their fans' racist chanting last season.

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

I guess we'll find out. I think that's been consigned to the bin anyway, at least for now. 13 wins in a row isn't an accident, and few teams set out to attack Liverpool. Robertson, TAA and pace make the difference there. It's very difficult to park the bus when they go from defence to attack in a co...

Re: Euro 2020

So we haven't lost a qualifying game for either the Euros or World Cup since 10th October 2009, when we went to Ukraine and lost 1-0 (we won all nine other games of that 2010 WC qualifying campaign). Last home defeat was that awful night in the rain, McClaren's umbrella, when we lost 3-2 at Wembley ...

Re: Champions League/Europa League 2019/20

How does Chelsea get into pot 1 ahead of Real Madrid? Pot 1 is now holders of the CL and Europa League titles, plus the winners of the six highest ranked leagues in Europe, which is why Zenit are in there, despite being ranked below all but Ajax and Benfica in Pot B. I think a top seeding for the E...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

You look at the early weeks of the PL and it "could" be a great season there as about 18 of the clubs seem capable of beating each other - but Liverpool and City only look like dropping points due to their own wastefulness - the gap between Liverpool and Chelsea last season was 25points -...

If I'm understanding correctly, if he'd just given a breath sample, he'd have got a driving ban, but because he refused (both, it seems, at the roadside, and back at the station) he's got himself a prison term as well. Whoever said footballers weren't stupid?

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

As somehow nothing has been said about this season's 100% record so far I thought I might express my view that they could actually stay at the top for the rest of the season. Although early in the season the Mighty Reds and City look again to be miles better than the rest. Liverpool and City do loo...

Jack Butland is having a season to forget, isn't he? Dropped by Stoke for their league game at the weekend, he was recalled for the Carabao Cup tie with Leeds last night, and with Stoke 2-0, he promptly smashed a clearance straight into his own defender, and was then nutmegged by a Leeds attacker tr...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

RIP Bury This is a dark day for English football. Sky sports and the Premier league and EFL should be held accountable. This is a grave indication of what is to come. Bury achieved promotion from League Two with players that they couldn't afford to pay. It's very sad for Bury fans, but this one fal...
