Re: Weekend Football

Meant to post this last week - went to Fulham's home game with City, and it appears that it is now a thing, at Craven Cottage at least, to remove lids from drinks bottles. So my Coke Zero was sans bottle top. What's this about? Yeah like Brobers said. Full bottle with lid becomes a missile, lid off...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

It is relatively recent, but I really remember nothing about the time when Lyon were the best team in France and PSG weren't a factor.

Also hadn't perceived how dominant Ludogorets have been.

Re: VAR

depends what you class successful as tbh Well, anecdotally per Stranded, it's not perfect in the Bundesliga but works much better. I don't recall VAR making many headlines in La Liga, save for a couple of times when it dared to rule against Real Madrid. The 'problem' with the technology isn't reall...

Re: Scottish premier league.

Stranded The 2024/25 season will mark the 40th Anniversary of a side not called Celtic or Rangers winning the league.

And with the exception of the years in which Rangers were rebuilding after their financial issues, only Hearts have prevented either from coming first or second in the last 30.

Re: VAR

I don't want VAR as it changes the game too much. Even if used to make all the calls correct, it would need to change too much about how the game is to be able to do that, and that to me is not success. get it in the bin There isn't a situation in 2024 where a multi-billion pound global football in...

Re: VAR

my only issue with a post VAR removal world is that you just know the likes of Sky Sports will continue to use lines drawn on the pitch when an offside is not called, to try and push all the conversation towards a 'ooh you wouldn't have had that with VAR' If we can use it relatively successfully in...

Re: Weekend Football

Would it be going too far to say the 3 relegated teams from the PL this season are the 3 worst promoted sides (as a collective) we have seen so far? Yep. And that's wholly by design. The system is oxf*rd. Two of the teams that narrowly escaped the drop only did so by breaking 'financial sustainabil...

Re: Weekend Football

Oliver Glasner is quietly doing things at Palace. Just three defeats in 12 since he joined, and they have beaten Liverpool, Newcastle and United in recent weeks. Talented core to their side in Johnstone, Guehi, Eze, Doucoure, Olise, Mateta. Have to say fair play to Chelsea and Pochettino, too. They ...

Re: England - the future....

I'm on record as one of Southgate's biggest supporters - but his selections in recent times have become more and more frustrating. Maybe summed up by the fact that James Tarkowski - ranked first in the PL for aeriel duels won and blocked shots, and second in clearances, playing for the best defence ...

Re: Weekend Football

Per Sky Sports - this will be the 10th time that a Premier League season has gone to the final day. In all nine previous occasions, the team ahead at kick-off on the final day went on to win the league, and indeed Blackburn, in 1994-95, are the only such leaders not to go on and win their final game...

Re: Is Pep a genius?

Was having a chat with a family member at the weekend. Massive City fan who through work contacts has had a few opportunities for private conversations with people high up the chain there. In short - Pep more than happy for the media to create their 'Pep', and for fans to think he just inherits supe...

Stranded Being reported that Hull have just sacked Liam Rosenior, which seems ridiculous, but nothing is surprising in football I guess.

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

I've only just noticed this - is it the first time the SPL has split into two halves for the final five games of the season? Also - with fixtures for this 'second phase' not set until the top and bottom six were decided, it seems a little silly of the SPL not to have set Celtic v Rangers for the fi...

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

Some very good young players at Hull (albeit some loans) - Carvalho, Philogene, Morton, Delap. Rosenior has done a great job after they looked like relegation candidates last season. The Reading link makes them the obvious team to root for, surely.
