Re: Coronavirus outbreak

I've just volunteered and been selected for this study which is looking for participants living in the following area: We are currently recruiting participants in Oxford (postcode regions OX1, OX2, OX3, and OX4), the City of Westminster, and Reading (postcode regions RG1, RG2, RG30, RG31, RG4, RG5 ...

SCIAG Speaking of Birmingham wingers at St Andrews, Demarai Gray in Adkins’ last ever game.

Lordy yes. Absolutely tore us to pieces.

Re: Finance

Independent content creators would massively benefit on streaming and video services. There's absolutely tons of copyright abuse stifling creativity there with big rights owners taking revenue from them. Tom Scott has a pretty good video on why copyright law is horrendous given modern technology an...

Re: Worst Reading Player

Karacan was a brilliant player - energetic, great tackler, scored a few. I remember him saying on a podcast that Adkins told him we would’ve gone up in 13/14 if he’d stayed injury-free. He started the season really well & would’ve been better than Guthrie. I’m stunned Jem’s been mentioned in th...

Re: Finance

But even outside of extreme examples - in 2005 the average Championship salary was about £2 to 2.5K a week. So, say 120K a year - 80K after tax. Out of which he'd have to pay his blooming accountant! You can easily see how you'd need to put away most of that if you're trying to make career earnings...

Re: Finance

When you think a carer probably earns about £15k a year I reckon a footballer playing at Championship level is well rewarded at £350k per annum. Besides they should be paid what a football club can pay them without getting into debt. Just maybe this virus will bring some much needed common sense in...

Re: Finance

Actually there's studies that show if you change business model to pay your employees more it significantly increases productivity and buy in and therefore revenue. For example there's the tech company in the US where the owner pays everyone at least $70k a year. His business doubled as a result. P...

Re: Finance

I did mention a wage cap earlier in this thread & someone said it was a stupid idea. Now the EFL are talking about it. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea after all...! I don’t think it’s the case that players will shoot off to other European leagues, as most likely wholesale changes to wage struct...

Re: Best XI in your lifetime. (Excluding the 106 team)

Started watching Reading in the l8 90s so excluding the 106 team, mine would be: GK - Martinez RB - Griffin CB - Upson CB - Gorkss LB - Harte RM - Kebe CM - Gylfi CM - Leigertwood LM - McAnuff ST - Cureton ST - Forster Subs: Federici Pearce Gunter Karacan McCleary Le Fondre Butler This is pretty mu...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Jimmy Crawford could have been a half decent player but we simply didnt know where to play him. He lost all confidence and we gave up on him. Of that era, Andy Mclaren was a more noticeable bad player as he played less than 10 times, got loaned out and failed a drugs test. I think more recently, we...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

It was mentioned in the press briefing that although it may be useless as an absolute measure it was useful in comparing the same stats with other countries as they use similarly inaccurate counts. So you can get an idea of the relative progression. I’m struggling with the idea that comparing two i...

Re: Finance

Need to remember a 40m loss is not necessarily a 40m FFP loss. That should be considerably less. Can you expand on this Stranded. I don’t know the ins and outs of all of this. One thing for FFP is the cost of a players contract is spread over the length of that contract. For instance, if we bought ...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

This thread is utterly bizarre, on a forum about Reading football club first team, a random guy posts his interpretation of the limited and flawed data on a pandemic outbreak, and every other post is someone criticising him, or asking him to stop, and then he gets angry about it. Seriously, what's ...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Might be of interest looking at Ireland's figures. Of the 4,014 confirmed cases as of midnight 02/04/20, 1,118 required hospitalisation, i.e., 27.8% 158 of those 1118 required ICU treatment. (14.13% of hospitalised cases, 3.93% of confirmed cases) Ireland are testing a lot more per head of populati...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Thanks for that 27.8% ? If only a third of UK confirmed cases are getting hospitalised and 20.6 of all CC’s are dying, that would mean 62% of people entering hospital were leaving in a box. I hope to God it’s not as bad as that! I really want to see a stat for number of confirmed cases being hospit...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

It should be noted that not all confirmed cases end up in hospital. Are there stats on Hospital admissions for Covid-19? If, for example, a third of confirmed cases DON'T go into hospital, then that would mean 31% of people being hospitalised are dying. If half manage not to go to hospital then the...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Thank you. But my inadequate brain tells me we will all get exposed to this at some point until herd immunity is achieved. This is not going away for a couple of years lockdown or not. If you really don't get it why not volunteer in your local hospital as a porter or cleaner? That way you might lea...
