Re: The Local Journo Thread

Not often I agree with JS, but I feel myself agreeing on this. Aiming for the corners each time would 100% result in more missed penalties as the margin of error is so small. The margin of error in kicking the ball a small distance, should not be very big. It is very repeatable action. Kicking the ...

Re: The Local Journo Thread

Obviously i get that players miss them. But there is no excuse for them not to be aimed right in the corner of the goal. Why does any player faff about trying to send the keeper the wrong way. Practice hitting it in a corner, over and over and over. If you execute correctly, the goalie will not sav...

Re: BFTG - Cardiff

Agree 100% Football has a serious problem The Respect campaign failed and hardly surprising when I recall the attitude of posters on here was that referees needed to earn respect rather than be given it. The authorities seem unable to sort out the problem. VAR is an irrelevant and unnecessary distr...

Re: BFTG - Cardiff

I agree. I find it shocking how it's just taken as normal for players to gesticulate at refs, argue with them, shout etc.. Whilst I prefer footy, I do admire the respect rugby players tend to have for the ref. It *should* be the case that even the slightest negativity to the ref by any player is an...

Re: BFTG - Cardiff

The weakness is out wide where there is just a wing back and not a full back plus winger and leaves the flanks vulnerable to being overloaded. So , given we’ve not had any defensive cover from our wings for years , there is no weakness in the system. The difference is that in this system the full b...

Clearly you haven't seen me talk about Swift. Rino shat all over Swift last season. +1 and that’s from a Swift ‘fan’ It's odd to be comparing them because they're totally different types of player, but for the record - Swift is clearly more technically skilled and has a better range of vision and p...

Re: BFTG - Cardiff

Watched the match again on tv. Still can't get over how good Swift was. He looked a different player to me. As well as the clever touches and great through balls there were tackles! At least 4, I reckon. And dont recall any daft passes to the opposition. And he looked fitter, quicker and stronger t...

Jagermesiter1871 Swift is 18 months older and is a much more accomplished player. Just didn't come through the academy.

Clearly you haven't seen me talk about Swift.

BBC News - Bury FC: Part of our family for four generations https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-49372359 This is a very sad article; shows the role of football clubs in communities and how in some relationships it's more than a game. If we can get this guy for £3m it will be the bargain of this or any other century. he has limitless potential if Sunday was anything to go by. Not much IF about it is there. We're obligated to buy him. I've heard from some of my inside contacts at both clubs Liverpool are looking to tie him down a...

Last 5 seasons are: 18/19 - 20 Clement / Gomes 17/18 - 19 Stam / Clement 16/17 - 3 Stam 15/16 - 19 Clarke / McDermott 14/15 - 17 Adkins / Clarke So it's wrong 2/5ths of the seasons for our final place, let alone at any point during the season. We were up in the top 6 for a while under Clarke when w...

Re: VAR

Another joy-sapping moment from VAR yesterday. I know fans of VAR will say it's the correct decision by the letter of the (revised) law, but that change to the interpretation has only been brought in because of the use of VAR, and, IMO, it's totally against the spirit of the game. Such moments are ...

Re: Will we get found out again?

It's not very consistently applicable though. We tried to play very fluid against Wednesday and were poor.

At this level, it's rare to have players capable of making a fluid system work on a regular basis.

Re: Will we get found out again?

playing 3 at the back does allow you to morph into 3-5-2 or a close variant of it. Even 3-3-4 if we wanted to push Yiadom and Richards (who are both capable of playing as full on wingers) if we needed to I've always quite liked it as a formation and seems to suit the current line up. Its not great ...
