Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

I think the main issue with Clarke and Fulham was that at the time they were pretty much same level as us. Would have really just been a sideways move, and obvs one whilst we were doing well at the time rightly or wrongly he was always on borrowed time after that unless we were being very successfu...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

I think Clarke is given an unnecessarily hard time over Fulham; he was approached and said no...as was McDermott by Wolves (also said no) as was Charlie Hurley by Sheff U (says in his book by the way) It happens in football when managers are doing a good job. Wasn't the difference that Clarke actua...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

Hound My mind must be playing tricks. Wasn’t McD’s diamond basically 4 Cms shoved in a midfield whilst Stam played 4-3-3 with 2 out and out wingers in G and Beerens?

I think SCIAG has lost the plot.

Re: January window

Joao is obviously brilliant and very integral to how we play, but if someone is offering £25m, I'm snapping their hand off and taking that shit to the bank. Same Puscas has improved, we've still got Meite, Olise, Ejaria etc chipping in and creating. We could easily bank £10m, find a replacement for...

SHunt was another. Technically really not that good, but so committed he got the rub of the green often enough to make it count.

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

And Stam signed Moore & Meite, the recent losing run shows how important those 2 are True - but the football we played under Stam was not "great" and absolutely not in the "Reading way". I think the view on Clarke is based slightly in hindsight on his subsequent successes. S...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

I’ll still defend Stam quite happily. Yes he made mistakes but he also did a lot right, got us playing great football in the Reading way and got results. I don’t blame him for the mess Gourlay got us into and a lot of the decline in the second season was out of his control. . Not sure you'll get to...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Sheffield Wednesday (a) sponsored by Jack Witham

Wednesday have only scored seven League goals this season but they have only let in twelve. So just nineteen goals in their fourteen games this season. Only Blackburn have scored more than us. I don't fear the low scoring, keep it tight sides. Sooner or later we'll get a chance. It's the one with s...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

tough one that. Stam for me did both the best and the worst. Second season was an utter shambles of a horror show which has cost the club very dearly, but can't argue with a 3rd place. Think Clement was ok, had the right ideas but was uninspiring, didnt seem to motivate the team and maybe not stron...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

I certainly think Gomes had more to work with than Clement. Though PC did get a bit of cash for a couple of signings that didnt work out in fairness. Pretty awful times under both really Thats fair. Out of Stam, Clement, Clarke and Gomes, who do we think is actually the best manager? I'm not includ...

Re: BFS - Bristol City (H)

I was very critical of Clement during his time in charge but he was the one who backed Meite and felt he had something about him and he was right. We've got a fair amount to thank Clement for, given the short period he was here. - keeping us up - backing Meite - bringing Rino through - signing Yiad...

Re: How good is Yakou Meite?

Better than the sum of his parts. Bit like Michail Antonio in that respect - they don't really look like they're good at football but they're incredibly effective. He's got tonnes of enthusiasm too, definitely not a surly wideboy like some modern professionals. Thank God that the club actually spot...

Re: How good is Yakou Meite?

Yeah we always have this Meite. When he scores he’s the absolutely brilliant and the second coming but when he doesn’t he’s a technically limited donkey and offers nothing to the team etc etc etc Think westwoods post sums it up nicely. The thing with Meite which many of us (including myself) might ...
