Re: Finance

Are we currently reliant upon our owners to stay afloat? Definitely yes. Could we see a points deduction? Sounds likely. But are we turning a corner and putting this messy era behind us? So long as we can ride out the consequences, undoubtedly yes . I'm genuinely curious as to why you think that? I...

Re: Finance

It's all its, buts and maybes, but ultimately investing in a team that only narrowly avoided relegation for 2 seasons is a risk worth taking. The revenue lost from relegation would cripple this club. Frequent £10m - £45m losses in a single season won't? It's precisely this total lack of responsibil...

Re: Finance

Moore being given a bumper contract for being refused permission to go to Brighton is looking absolutely insane now. How much must he be on? £30k a week? More? We could have got £8m for him, instead we've paid out how many to him? Mannone was reportedly on big money. Aluko will have been on a huge ...

Re: What got you into supporting RFC?! And when you did who was your nearest team?

Nobody else in my family was a particularly big sporting fan of any kind. However, my parents noticed I enjoyed football and were keen to get me into any hobby that got me out and about more. So they took me to see my local team, who played out an exciting 1-1 draw against Grimsby at Elm Park. It gr...

Re: Finance

Also, £3m loan fee for Aluko from a related party.

Not in the same league as Derby's £80m stadium, but still pretty much impossible to justify.

Re: Finance

Who is leaving us this summer? Gunter, Mannone, McCleary, Blackett, Popa are out of contract. Would expect Barrow to follow too, and Aluko and McNulty if we find takers. These are all Gourlay signings, presumably on big wages and would be a phenomenal amount off the books. Possibly £80k - £100k p/w,...

As if Dominic Raab could be running this country for a couple of weeks. He's so oxf*rd stupid he'll probably try to defeat the virus with his karate.

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

The Spanish Flu comparison is flawed because of context and events. Agreed that in the given timescales, modern vaccine technology would not have made much difference. But ultimately it was because of the war it was so deadly. Nations didn't want to damage morale for the war effort and so didn't rep...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Of course I miss football. It's not important in the context of current events, but ultimately it's part of my structure in normal life. I discuss it work with colleagues, it keeps WhatsApp threads with old friends active, and many weekends are structured around watching it. I can't wait until it re...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

I guess the economic fall out from this will only kill people if it's tied to neo-liberal austerity doctrine. The government will have to borrow loads to keep businesses afloat and people fed, to the extent that debt will take 50+ years to pay off. The same happened in WW2, but we came out of it wit...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Right, I've heard a few conflicting views, but I think we should try to finish this season, even if we can't until August/September. So what do we do with 20/21? - Cancel domestic cups - European competitions go straight to single tie knock outs - If necessary, copy the Scottish league and split bet...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

i think the logical thing to do would be postpone the leagues, then play the remaining games late May and June because I think Euro 2020 will be put off till next year. Start next season in September and cancel the cup comps. Its going to be very strange stopping the season for 2 months and restart...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Amongst all the uncertainty, wouldn't it be absolutely hilarious if Liverpool and Leeds were denied the PL title and promotion, respectively. Probably unlikely, but they will probably be denied their celebrations and quite possibly be awarded it on some default basis when we can't complete the seaso...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Stoke City (h) sponsored by John Halls

I wonder if closed doors would help our home form. A bit less pressure for players; we can take our away game approach. Conversely, teams may be more comfortable sitting back and frustrating us when we're away. What pressure? We are hardly Millwall are we? Our crowd largely sit on their hands and s...

Re: January Transfer Window

Interesting from JLow today. Thinks it'll be a quiet summer transfer window based upon loans and fees. I thought we were largely out of the woods FFP wise, but clearly with the way we structured the Joao, Puscas and Ejaria deals last year, we're not likely to be big spenders. But then it looked like...

Re: Best centre back pairing

If the season is largely over, could there be value in sending Moore away for his shoulder surgery? It would allow him more recovery time and a better pre season. It will surely have been effecting his performance overall. I get playoffs are not totally out of the question, so maybe wait until we've...
