Re: The squad in July

From the veiled wording here - seems that the club hadn't yet announced Sarr leaving because Sarr hadn't told the club he was going to leave - looks like the deal announcement came as a bit of a surprise and they are more than slightly pissed about it. https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2023/june/13/...

Re: Rival Watch

Yeah it's a real shame for Wigan really, always thought they were a decent club. A lot of clubs in the Lancashire area all fighting for the similar positions and struggling to differentiate themselves. It's tough enough getting investment for a lot of the clubs in the lower half of the 92 without h...

Re: Rival Watch

Well the PL has proven that attracting foreign talent does little to improve England's performance. And English players have rarely travelled in any numbers. So I'm not really sure what the English leagues lose from all the high paid foreigners oxf*rd off. Oh no, the big x won't be winning any Euro...

Re: RFC accounts for 2021/2 published

Not sure we're officially a League One side yet, seen suggestions on Twitter anyway that this might just be to cover costs over the Summer break when we have less income, I suppose even if that were the case, it's better than it being added as more debt. I think it must be July 1st. that teams offi...

Re: Moving away fans to Upper West Corner

Hot take that will probably piss every single person off: When matches are played behind closed doors, the biggest difference is that away players are awarded fewer yellow cards. https://www.reading.ac.uk/web/files/economics/emdp202014.pdf Therefore, moving away fans in order to increase home advan...

Re: Champions League, Europa League & Europa Conference League 22/23

It's easy to sneer at the Europa Conference League when we live in a country who's top flight is awash with money. I dont see it as a competition for the likes of English clubs, its more for the sides that would otherwise get rolled over by the monied clubs. It's like sneering at League 1 or League...

Re: The dedicated Chris Wilder thread

Haven’t seen the latest postings so may have already been said but from afar in Spain this morning word is that Wilder has agreed to join but Bowen has had had a change of heart and prefers supposedly better candidates!!! ? Glenn Hoddle, Lawrie Sanchez? Serious Uke? With oldies like Warnock and Hod...

Re: Rival Watch

I think it's very likely Wigan will drop to league 2 this season. The EFL are a disgrace allowing these people to own football clubs I think it all rests on who this new owner is and how much they are willing to invest in the club. If it's anything like the last couple they've had then yes, relegat...

Re: Champions League, Europa League & Europa Conference League 22/23

I thought the ref had a really good game FWIW. Don’t think he got any of the contentious calls wrong (not particularly aware of the handball law anymore so no idea if Roma should have been given a penalty) but I just felt he didn’t control the game brilliantly Albeit a difficult game to ref given t...

Re: The dedicated Chris Wilder thread

We’ll likely hear something official early next week. If the blue ticks are saying it’s all agreed, then it’s all agreed. Wilder has been at the training ground four times now, so they’ve obviously done a lot of talking, and now agreeing the back room staff. The lack of patience from football fans ...

Dann over Morrison - one of the most imbecilic decisions the club ever made.

I agree. But without imbecilic decisions, it is impossible to know exactly which decision is the right one.

Having witnessed Wigan play I can confirm they don’t deserve payment.

More points deductions incoming?

100%, they might not even start the season the way their owners are going.

It's a common occurrence. Especially if the owners are not immersed in the team's internal affairs.

Re: Rival Watch

Has it be clarified yet if they will even be able to play at Kenilworth Road next season? Last I heard the ground does not meet the minimum requirements for PL football, particularly the requirements for TV, VAR as well as a few other points. The work needed to bring it up to code is doable but whe...

Re: League One - Your Expectations?

I think Derby getting nearly 30,000 every would give them a rather bigger budget than we'll have. Derby also went down with a far better team than we did, thanks to their 21 point deduction. They were better but only 5pts better on the pitch. 8 points better than last year's team. Would you say the...

Re: Local journalist

Noticed a fair chunk of the Reading journalists who left recently, don’t appear to be in the industry anymore. Not sure if it’s common, but would be intrigued to know why. Get Reading/Evening Post was killed by going online-only: they heavily streamlined their journalists and the quality of reporti...

Pepe the Horseman Neil Critchley back at Blackpool. Good move all round there.

Why do you think Neil Critchley will be good at Blackpool again? It's been a while, he's not the same guy anymore.

Re: Moving away fans to Upper West Corner

Unless there's an elderly or disabled person present I think parking at the stadium is a waste of money and time. Can park for free 20 minutes walk up the road without the 45 minute queue to get out of the car park after the game. Parking is very handy, no matter how you look at it... Whoever wants...

Re: Revised new manager poll

An insight to Chris Davies' role at Leicester. Like Rodgers he left the club in April and is currently "looking for a new club" https://www.premierleague.com/news/2573082 Chris was first team coach at Reading from January to June 2016 so was someone Brian presumably wanted when he returne...
