Re: England - the future....

Tammy Abraham has been making noises about a switch to Nigeria, or refusing to rule it out at least.

Re: England - the future....

Germany may become a good finishing school for young English talent but for the likes of Sancho their formative years are still over here. Interestingly I think Germany have suffered a similar fate to England when it comes to turning good young prospects into world class finished articles. I don't ...

Re: England - the future....

It'll be players, like Sancho, who are brought up away from the English game that will get there first, imho. Germany may become a good finishing school for young English talent but for the likes of Sancho their formative years are still over here. Interestingly I think Germany have suffered a simi...

Re: England - the future....

I've got loads of time for Southgate, but I'm becoming uninspired by his central midfield 3. Rice is a DM, and Henderson has never been a technical player or passer. The line up doesn't have the ball retention skills to compete at the highest level. Winks should surely be playing, while in the atta...

Re: SpuROFLs

The amazing thing about Spurs is that they have managed to stay so high in the Premiership for so long, despite not spending much money for ages, and being excellent at buying rubbish players when they did. They also suffered more than most with the 2018 World Cup tiring players: Dele Ali and Tripp...

Not arrested, but I see that Danny Drinkwater has got himself into trouble again by being a bit of a drunken twat.

Re: The Non - League thread

Northwood 2-2 Bracknell Town - Robins two behind after 15', battle back to level late on through Minhas I wonder how long the new gaffer has until the Chairman decides he'd not up to delivering on Bracknell's ambitions. Only one win from three isn't in keeping with expectations down at Larges Lane!

The Enfield Royal71 Kompany goes from player manager to just player

Only on match days though. He's still Player-Manager.

Re: VAR

It shows exactly the opposite. You state quite happily that you can see why they haven't overturned it, which means that the system is working well, and used only to overturn 'clear and obvious' errors. If you can see why they haven't, then by definition it can't be 'clear and obvious'. Either wyay...

Re: VAR

It's only controversial if you don't accept that refereeing is subjective, when in fact that's exactly the reason you suggest that we shouldn't use VAR. You're a sensible man HB, and on, say, the City penalty incident, I can believe that you think it was a foul, I do too, but I struggle to believe ...

Re: VAR

Separately, I think over time fans will come to understand and accept more and more what VAR is for and when it will be used. A slightly different idea I had that might help this is a VAR app that fans could download, and to which VAR decisions (I think I read it is broadly 11-12 reviews a game) ca...

Re: VAR

Clear and obvious to the officials - my point on this is consistent. It is respect for referees' decisions that is the problem here. Broadly speaking, you suggest you expect VAR, if it worked properly, to agree with all of your opinions, and that therefore because it can't, VAR isn't suitable for f...

Re: VAR

I know I'm repeating myself here, but that's a problem with your perception of what VAR should do, or is designed to do. It gives referees an opportunity to make a 'better' subjective decision - that you happen to think the City incident was a penalty is irrelevant. The referee didn't, subjectively...

Re: VAR

Is there a running tally of how many goals have been denied by VAR compared to how many pens have been given (that wasn't originally given)? Alongside sucking all the joy out of the game, is it making it a lower scoring game too? There's a definite imbalance to the way it negatively effects things....

Re: VAR

Another joy-sapping moment from VAR yesterday. I know fans of VAR will say it's the correct decision by the letter of the (revised) law, but that change to the interpretation has only been brought in because of the use of VAR, and, IMO, it's totally against the spirit of the game. Such moments are ...

Re: VAR

I didn’t see all the weekend’s games so have no opinion on the Man City VAR “controversy” but if anyone can explain how the lads in the VAR booth couldn’t see that Pogba clearly dived before eventually manufacturing contact with Coasy’s foot I’d really appreciate it. The review of Wolves’ goal was ...

Re: VAR

it didn't work perfectly well before - there were countless discussion about intent and natural vs unnatural positions. The change in the law makes it unambiguous - you can't score a goal either directly or indirectly from a handball, deliberate or not. That makes sense to me. Or would we be okay i...

Re: VAR

It's getting a but monotonous now - VAR gives football an opportunity to refine its laws alongside the use of technology. That makes a hell of a lot more sense than whinging that we'd rather let infringements go because 'joy'. The ball hit Laporte's hand and deflected to the goalscorer. If Reading ...

Re: VAR

Tbf tbat is as much as the new stupid rule that is in place only for handballs accidentally or not that result in a goal. Although if var wasn't a thing nobody ever would have noticed or in any game in any league ever. It was an absolute non handball and a stupid rule. If it wasn't for VAR there wo...
