Re: Goalkeepers

rabidbee What do Button’s stats look like if you exclude all the games where we conceded a goal?

Played 8, goals against zero, ∞ minutes per goal conceded.

His figures get even better if you include game where we conceded but exclude the exact seconds we conceded.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

£1m was the reported fee for Fletcher. McIntyre widely reported as a pitiful £75k, which is slightly less than we initially paid for Kevin Doyle. He was agitating for a move but didn't want to move house, so our options were limited. The other four would need to be about £1m each on average. That se...

Re: Football Grounds

Never been one for many long journeys. Have seen us play at Farnborough, Slough, Bracknell, Woking, Basingstoke, and Hungerford, probably more impressive than my total of 23. My overall number (not just Reading) is 34. Part of me is now tempted to try and get that up, could knock off a bunch of non-...

Re: Ex Players

Looks like Osho is leaving Luton from his last twitter post.......do we have a sell on? It could be his contract has run down though He left us on a free anyway, so I'd say no. Agreed You can’t put a sell on clause when there was no transfer in the first place or enforce on when there is no sale…. ...

Re: Asking AI about Reading FC

Only interesting thing about AI is watching it hallucinate. I asked three LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude) to select their all-time Reading FC XI. They all selected Jimmy Quinn on the right wing, which is odd. The only other player they all selected was Murty. ChatGPT and Claude selected basically...

Forbury Lion
Sutekh Jacob HAMMOND-CHAMBERS-BORGNIS (20) > 46
I don't recall seeing this lad play, but I imagine he has to wear a long sleeved shirt to allow them to print his name across the back and down the sleeves.

Generally just goes by "Borgnis".

Re: SquadWatch 2025

Of those, I think Stickland and Holzmann are probably fine but not on the level of Abbey/Bindon/Dorsett/Mbengue. League One is probably where they'll spend most of their careers and they're at a stage where they should be looking to step up. Fine with them being fourth and fifth choice. Ryan can pro...

Re: Players on international duty

Ah does look like a new manager and these will be his first games in charge - he may not be too interested in a player playing 3rd tier English football. I find the coach's tactics inappropriate, most Cameroon players play in tournaments on par with the English 3rd division, there is not much diffe...

Re: Mark Bowen betting charges

There's no excuse if he's guilty, and it seems likely he I; the FA don't tend to just float charges based upon flimsy evidence in cases like this. In any job, if any condition (health, mental health, whatever) means you cannot abide by strict and transparent rules, you should get support. But it wo...

In our first Premier League season I was fortunate (not so fortunate for him  ) to be sat next to Steve Coppell at the League Managers Association annual dinner at Stamford Bridge. He was very open when we talked about individual players and about young James Henry (bearing in mind the sort o...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Harvey Maunder never regained his best form after that serious injury, shame as he was a talented player. Do think Jahmari Clarke is a better prospect than Jeremiah Okine-Peters but he hasn't pushed on the way he needed to. Only five u18s stepping up is low, but shouldn't be too surprising given how...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Three overage players allowed in the match squad. As well as Jay Spearing at Liverpool, Man United have Tom Huddlestone (and previously used Paul McShane in the same role). Clubs do still need to occasionally give overage players a run-out. Think the rule atm is 3 in a match day squad, might be thre...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

blythspartan Get that Ellis Taylor signed up. Can we play Ryan at LB? I love Carson’s ball delivery but he can’t defend for toffee.

Put it this way: there’s a reason we signed Carson, Ryan and Clarke rather than keep using Sam Paul.

Re: Rival Watch

Don't think we are in serious contention anyway, unless we make some clever signings. Playoff form for most of the year, top 5 attendances - an extremely young squad comprising some of the best U21s in the country. We're solidly in the playoff conversation. I think "some of the best U21s in th...

Re: Neil Warnock interview in Chronicle

From memory wasn’t Jem’s first nasty injury against Leeds at home caused by a scissor tackle by Michael Brown that trapped his leg and then Brown put his weight on Jem’s leg. It was considered a nasty and agricultural tackle 15-20 years ago, now outlawed? It was a red card offence then, but the ref...

No respect for the guy. Karacan’s injury (which massively hobbled his career) was not a coincidence. Tetek’s injury (which seems to have effectively ended his career) was not a coincidence. He was a thug of a manager who had no respect for opposing players or officials. That’s the real Warnock, not...
