Hunt/Halford/Sunderland

by TopCat » 12 Feb 2008 22:20

Evening all, Sunderland supporter here.

Now that the transfer window is closed, and Stephen Hunt has sucessfully used our interest to negotiate a few extra pennies out of John Madjeski you can all rest easy. Is he any good? Never heard of him until he gained a certain notoriety by headbutting Petr Cech with his knee.

Whist we're on the subject of Reading-Sunderland transfers, is Greg Halford your revenge for John Oster?

Good luck to you for the rest of the season, but I hope we finish above you

TC

Top Cat - A question for you,- as I've heard a couple of different accounts of this from Sunderland-supporting mates.

When Keano exploded in Steve Coppell's office after the match at the MadStad, was it solely down to the last minute winner, or was it more to do with certain features of Halford's personal life that Keane thinks we should have told him about?

Hopefully we can all thank Charlton for taking him if his loan deal works out. Can't believe we bought Bardsley for £1M less and already he looks 10 times the player.

Is Oster still in the team? He was poor for us, but very rarely played in his favoured position, and was one of the many scapegoats with the supporters.

What are your thoughts in Hunt? Did he want to join us (Big love in with Keane) or was it just to get a better contract with you guys? Didn't you pick him up on a free from Brentfor a couple of years back? £5.5M would have been a hell of a profit!

Bit of both. Have to be careful waht I say, as our own message board (http://www.readytogo.net/smb) was shut down for a few days due to certain allegations.

Keane is a pretty level headed guy when it comes to decisions going against us, so can only assume (if the stories are true) that the bust up was down to Halford in some form

Thanks for the honesty TC - that's more or less what I understood about it, too.

Halford scored on his debut in Charlton's reserves, and Parkinson must surely be the driving force behind this move, having worked successfully with Halford at Col Utd

Having said that, if the allegations about Halford's private life are correct, I would have thought London is the last place he should be

TC, Stephen Hunt would have been a brilliant signing for you. I probably shouldn't me admitting this to a supporter of a rival but if Reading stand any chance of staying up (and I think it's pretty minimal) Stephen "perm" Hunt will have a lot to do with it.
Good luck for the rest of the season. It's always good to have other supporters on this board and particularly of a team that describe former Reading manager Charlie Hurley as their greatest ever player.

Hunt is a top player, though he has his weaknesses.

He can be quite innefffective in games sometimes because his crossing for a winger isn't great. He's not especially finessed either.

He's determined and always willing to have a go, sometimes trying to much. He can get himself in trouble with his aggression, I'd call it hard but generally fair (or at least fair intent).

He is one of those players though that can spark something fantastic, he'll take people on and frighten them into making mistakes. He's got a decent scoring record and he's got great energy and can tackle and hassle back. Probably the best left winger you'll find outside the real big teams.

Hmmmm....You seem to know a lot about the left wingers in the Prem, well more than me obviously!! You must have had players in mind when you posted your 'clever' little reply. Just who are they, and how are they better than Hunt?

Hunt's an agressive, hard-working athlete with a great spirit and next to no footballing ability.
