Nick Hammond

by gonesy » 10 Jan 2011 23:45

Just saw this on an Argyle website, made me lol: -

ON THIS DAY - 10 JANUARY
1996: Another of Argyle's less-than-successful captures, goalkeeper Nicky Hammond left Home Park for Reading, six months and six appearances after his arrival.

AND WE STILL CAN'T GET RID OF HIM  Only joking, he seems to do a very good job for us. Certainly been more valuable to us since he stopped playing! Let's hope BWP is a better signing tho!

He wasn't that bad a keeper in all honesty. Injury prone, but reliable in comparison to some of the dross we brought in to replace Shaka Hislop.

Agree completely. He was a hell off a lot better than many peole give him credit for. His biggest fault was not being Shaka.

And Howie wasn't bought to replace him. Hammond suffered a career ending injury single handedly trying to keep Ipswich at bay as our defence repeatedly parted like the Red Sea in front of him, having himself crawled off the treatment table to play because of an injury crisis. Howie was bought because our only other keeper was Simon Sheppard.
