Hello chaps!

by ITFC_Keane » 28 Aug 2011 20:23

Long time no see. We've taken a couple of thrashings by former League One sides, which (ashamedly) we utterly deserved.

Now we've got Sonko, who was Man of the Match for us yesterday. What a player! Cool, calm, good header of the ball and organised our back four like no other. With Ingi out (but apparently due back in two weeks), we needed a CD who could cut the mustard and Sonko has been it!

I know a lot of you didn't rate the guy when he was at RFC, but he was superb yesterday. Believe me.

This league's still as hard to get out of as ever though. We'll probably get another tonking by Brighton or someone who should be crap.

Unfortunately I'd expect that two weeks for Ingimarsson to turn into two months if your not careful.

First time round EVERYONE rated Sonko (hence Sonko is Superman - ironically coined in the aftermath of your 2-0 defeat at the MadStad). His injury has really taken it out of him and he's never quite been the same since.

Good luck to him, but don't expect miracles.

I would think after Peterborough I would look cool calm and composed!! I wouldn't get carried away after one game he will struggle if he comes up against pace.

Aaah don't remind me of Peterborough. What a sh*t day out. It cost me £120 including my lad and his mate and petrol and food and drinks etc. By Saturday night, we were driving back and both lads asked if it was too late for them to start supporting Man United or Liverpool, because they'd always been their "second" teams!

And yes, I was at Old Trafford in '95 when they did us 9-0, and I didn't feel as bad as Peterborough. We were truly awful. So bad in fact, that my boy wanted to leave at half-time. That was his 9th birthday treat. I felt like agreeing, but stupidly said "No, let's wait, it's only 4-1, we might turn this around you know..."

To be fair, he enjoyed yesterday. His dad didn't at times, but he certainly liked the win.

Seems you've gone crap again all of a sudden so it's catching. Sometimes I wonder what teams like us (who should be rightfully challenging at the top) are doing losing to Barnsley and Peterborough. I guess that's the 'magic' of football. Doesn't feel like it.

Sonks was our most popular player at the start of 2007...but after he was injured it all went a bit pear-shaped and he was never the same player. Good luck to him though. Hope he does well for you.
We are struggling a bit at the moment. Our wingers are out of form at the moment and McDermott needs to sort out our full-backs. Once these areas are sorted out we will be fine.
What do you reckon to Paul Jewell? He was very highly rated at one time but hasn't really stepped up.

How much are you paying him though?!?

Apparently we offered him a one year deal worth 2K per week, he turned it flat down. I hear somewhere that he thought he should be the top paid player at Reading. The unsufferably arrogance of the man! Glad we didn't budge on the offer.

Hope he isn't taking you for a ride - having said that, no offence to you personally, I don't like Ipswich but I hope they fail.

Fair play ITFC, you can't possibly be that bad all season, and I hope the same can be said for us.

Sonko was rubbish for us in preseason apparently and since his injury he's lost a yard of pace. That always used to be what got him out of trouble from slightly ropey positioning or a mistake. Since the injury it just makes him a walking liability or penalty machine. Unless he's found a way round it.

Good luck, he'll probably be ok over the course of a season, but nothing more.

We offered Sonko £10k week and as many STAR beauties as his bed could cope with and he still did a runner. Arrogance indeed.

Tbf if we DID offer him £2k a week, I'm not surprised he didn't take it. I doubt any of our players are on that or less...

ITFC, a question - do you post on other teams' forums (apart from Ipswich obviousyl)? Why Hobnob? Genuinely interested.

Perhaps the nuptials put him off the deal.

what makes you say we didn't rate him? he was a brilliant centre back for us until that crushing injury in the premiership and he wasn't the same after that. he came back on trial this summer and was a disaster. i really hope it works out for him at ipswich but you're in for some surprises soon.

Saw him play at Bristol Rovers and although clearly very rusty wouldn't have written him off entirely on the basis of that performance, particularly given the dubious quality of Khumalo (who I suspect is paid a fair bit more than what Sonko wanted).

If we really did only offer him a one year deal worth £2K a week then we really were taking the p*ss! I doubt there are many experienced Championship players on that little. If we felt Sonks was worth a contract he was worth more than that. If we only felt he was worth £2K then he can't have been good enough for us and we shouldn't have offered a contract at all.

Well that didn't take long - Sonko out with his old knee problem. Guess we had a lucky escape there - and Gorks is a much better player all around anyway.
