Here for the KEBE Funny how no one complains about our CM being too defensive when we pick up the 3 points - both of them are very decent for this level

I complained about them in the back from Ipswich game thread and also pointed out that, because they are so defensive, we have no plan B when our wingers are shut out and/or fail to perform.

Very prophetic given yesterday's performance.

Plan B is to take Karacan off for a winger and put McAnuff in the middle. Meanwhile we'll still try to play with the two wingers being shut out of the game. Hell we could have Gerrard sat on the bench and we'd probably still take Karacan off and put McAnuff into the middle.

Gandalf Presley Although probably a 'too good for the championship, not good enough for the premiership' type player, I feel that Graham Dorrans from WBA would be a superb acquisition.

Was thinking this when I saw him come on for West Brom the other day. Hate to start this again because it comes up all the time but there is speculation that Simon Cox could be looking for a move as his chances at WBA are also limited (only started one game this season).

There always seems to be speculation about former players joining former managers or clubs. Is there any precedent for this being more likely than them going elsewhere?

Would love Simon Cox back tbf.

I would be upset but not surprised to see us cash in and sell Alex McCarthy to Leeds with the funds being used to strengthen the team elsewhere.

If he's good enough to be a first teamer for a team like Leeds then he's too good to sit on our subs bench.

He's been a sub since Lonergan came back :|

And Leeds almost definitely can't afford him anyway.

He's potentially only been a sub because he's on loan and Grayson would be daft to piss off his long term keeper for the sake of sticking with McCarthy for a couple of games.

Sarah, there's lots of examples of managers going back to recruit players they've worked with previously. Coppell almost had an obsession with doing it and it's not surprising as they feel they know what they're getting. Players going back to previous clubs is a bit less common but not unheard of (Trevor Senior and Adie Williams for example).

Probably, but even then that should tell you he doesn't think he's got much/any chance of signing him.

Agreed, I can't see them stumping up enough for McCarthy. Wasn't disputing that, just your confused look at the good enough for Leeds comment above. Isn't there some stat about them not spending more than £500k (or some lowish figure) on a player for a number of years now.

I agree, but I can't actually think of nearly as many as I thought there were...

Ingimarsson, Owusu, Hunt... those are the ones I can come up with. Oh and Gordon and (just about) Sodje. Did it with Cisse (WHY!?) at Brizzle too.

Possibly not as many as it seemed at the time, but a few others would be Brooker, Little and I think Dobson.

I don't think Sonko or Sodje count but they'd have worked with Wally Downes at Brentford. Sidwell seems like one too, although obviously signed for us under Pardew so doesn't count.

I see there's a player called Forster-Caskey. With a name like that, sign him at once.

(Goodness knows what soap opera went on in his background.)

Well I'm no encyclopedia, but from what I've read on here before:
one of them had a missus
the other one picked up said missus 2nd hand
the other one then raised the kid along with the missus
hence the name.

With a name like that he's got to be pretty good.
If he runs like Forster and shoots like Caskey, he'll be onto something.
But if he eats pies like Caskey and has the injury proneness of Forster, he's in trouble.

Scoed on his debut for Brighton on Monday.

All right I'll pose the question. Who's the daddy Nicky or Darren?

Who signed Steve Sidwell? He certainly signed him for Brighton, having had him on loan at Brentford.

Pardew signed him, basically gazumping Brighton and Coppell who had him on loan but never actually signed him .

It was his full debut though wasn't it?

What's the deal with Khumalol? Can Spurs call him back any time in January, if so why haven't they done it yet?

I didn't think it was a full season long loan initially but it turns out it is. According to the way the Evening Post reported it at the time Spurs can recall him in January. I would assume that means at any time.

No idea why they wouldn't have recalled him, unless we've said we want to keep him around and they're honouring that deal. Perhaps they just don't want him back!
