Mr Optimist
My understanding of its origins is the ironic "RDS" (Reading Drinking Squad) & TTB (Taking the Biscuit) organised joint venture double decker booze bus trip to Shrewsbury away in about 1990ish, my memory of the day is hazy for some unknown reason. The song originated that day following someone noticing in a very drunken moment that Madonna's song Erotic sounded more like she was singing Billy Oddie, Bill Oddie, rub your beard all over my body, and it became the chant of the day!

My best friend also stole a massive stuffed toy parrot from an antique shop before the game and it became the terrace mascot at Gay Meadow that day.

A legend is born.

I was on that bus to Shrewsbury but don't remember the song that day........but then I don't remember that much about that trip at all.
However I do know that The Bill Oddie/Madonna song was part of Matt Lucas' stand up routine before he was famous.

Blimey. I was on the bus that day too. 1-1 wasn't it? Moran equalising in front of us in the second half? Remember loads of the top deck drinking sherry  from the pick up at Reading Station at like 9am and stopping off at a boozer in Telford (either on the way there, or way back?). Totally surreal.

I don't remember Bill Oddie either. Mind you he could've been sitting next to me and it wouldn't have registered! :D I kinda remember the parrot though..... I think!

Great song - hopefully it will become less and less "niche" with time.

Certainly hear a lot of younger lads singing it (makes me feel old saying that but i am 33 now) so i guess it has a future

Made a couple of notable appearences in the Leeds game when I was there in the north stand. Pretty sure I was the only person in my vacinity singing it, though
