Tyler Bindon played 1st half of Oceania Cup Semi-Final for New Zealand and substituted after he had a yellow card at the end of the half. New Zealand won 5-0 v Tahiti and into the final on Sunday.

Bindon in the NZ Olympics squad where he will face France and Olise. I don't know the exact dates, but likely to affect the start of the season?

Only if they progress deep into the tournament I would say - though means he will miss a bulk of pre-season which is unfortunate but not the end of the world.

Group stage fixtures for NZ (times in CET)

Weds 24th July - 17:00 v Guinea
Sat 27th July - 21:00 v USA
Tue 30th July - 21:00 v France

If they finish in the top 2 they will have a QF on Friday 2nd August - if you are missing your tournament fix, all 4 QFs are on the same day, one after the other from 15:00 CET

Semis are Monday 5th August
Bronze medal match on Thursday 8th with the final on Friday 9th.

So unless NZ get to the semis, he should be available for selection at Birmingham on the 10th.

Nice. Have we had any players at the Olympics before?

Ted Hanney 1912 - in gold medal team but didn't play in final

Maurice Edelston 1936

Fran Kirby 2020 (with Chelsea by then probably)

Daley Thompson ...! (trialist)

All for GB - may be more for other countries.

Ryan Bertrand was in the 2012 Olympics squad just a couple of years after his loan with us.

Wasn't Adam Gemili on the club's books at one stage as well?

Bindon should be back in a day or two as NZ play France tonight and pretty much need to avoid defeat to have a chance of staying in the competition (France have won their two group games so far and the US walloped NZ 4-1 last time out after NZ got a late win v Guinea in their opener).

I also wonder just what the ******* point is of having football in the olympics as there's only 16 teams! Don't know if there is qualifying for the games though?

Was in Chelsea's academy before 1 year in Reading's in 2008. Played for Dagenham though.

Looking at players away on international duty in the next week:

Tyler Bindon - New Zealand vs Mexico (A) and United States (A) in friendlies.
Coniah Boyce-Clarke - Jamaica vs Cuba (H) and Honduras (A) in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Jeriel Dorsett (TBC) - Montserrat vs El Salvador (N) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (N) in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Charlie Savage - Wales U21 vs Iceland (A) in the Euro U21 qualifiers.
Basil Tuma - Malta U21s vs Kazakhstan (A) and Scotland (H) in the Euro U21 qualifiers.

There may be more, but that's what we've got so far. I imagine Bindon will be withdrawn with concussion.

I guess Bindon may not make it if the concussion period needs to be applied.

Dorsett also looked like he went off injured on Sat.

(What looks to be) the official New Zealand twitter feed is confirming Bindon is out of their squad with concussion: https://x.com/NZ_Football/status/1830805719450620361

Not surprised, he looked like he might have been out cold for a few seconds. Not often you see the lino frantically signalling for a physio.

Seemed to go over the top of the player and landed on his head; he wasn't moving as soon as he hit the ground. Really good he walked off the pitch himself.

Is it not two weeks players have to be withdrawn from competitive action with concussion? Hopefully he'll be available for Leyton Orient.

I feel like 10 days, but no idea where I got that.
