Many times, if you consider that any club being bought out of administration is effectively an auction, where the administrator will almost always recommend that the highest bidder will get to purchase them.
(Although obviously there are t&cs and complications due to the administration, so it's never quite as simple as that.)
If you bend the definition of ‘auction’ then pretty much any sale is an ‘auction’
