Heard this on the radio regarding Man Utd and Brian Mbeumo but the same goes for Couhig/Reading:

When signing players, for every day the deal is delayed the buying club saves a day's worth of wages - so if a player is on £7k per week the club saves £1000 per day for every day the deal isn't done

Could frugal Rob be doing this?

They don’t though. They just delay paying it by 1 day. A 2 year contact is still 2 years, it just starts a day later.

Contracts usually run to 30 June from what I've seen of announcements and departures. No reason a 'two year' deal would run into mid/late July... it's pointless.

Due to the sad passing of Adam Prior, Head of Pre-Academy and Foundation Development Phase Recruitment, the club’s communication channels will remain silent today as a mark of respect. RIP.

Agree - nice touch - but means they cannot announce all those new signings and Kelvin's contract renewal :-)

Reading Football Club are delighted to welcome Village Hotel Club as our Official Hotel Partner ahead of the 2025/26 season.

A well-established name in the UK’s hotel and health & wellness sector, Village Hotel Club will proudly feature on the back of our Men’s First Team kits for the upcoming campaign, with further visibility across pitch side advertising at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The partnership arrives ahead of the opening of Village Hotel Club Reading, set to launch in December 2025 following a significant multi-million-pound transformation of the former Crowne Plaza site at Caversham Bridge. The new site promises to be a vibrant hub for the local community and visiting fans alike – complete with stylish rooms, a state-of-the-art Health & Wellness Club, on-site Starbucks, and the signature Village Pub & Grill, where Royals fans can look forward to a series of planned events and live screenings of televised matches.

Reading Football Club Chairman, Rob Couhig, said:
“We are delighted to have Village Hotel Club on board and would like to thank them for their support. We share the same community values, and we look forward to working closely with them throughout the season and beyond.”

Rob Lees, General Manager at Village Hotel Club Reading added:
“Village and Reading FC share ambitious plans for the future, and this sponsorship reflects our commitment to supporting community initiatives and fostering community spirit. We are extremely proud to partner with Reading FC and help the Club achieve its goals – and we can’t wait to welcome Royals fans to our new Reading hotel later this year.”

Very much a nationwide chain of hotels so, yes I can definitely see the first team using them. I used to work for the company that designs, fits and maintains their kitchens.

They've got about 30 hotels in total. South West is about the only part of the country, they don't have any sites.

Wonder if they'll offer any deals to fans across the chain because, although you wouldn't book a week's holiday in one, they're a more than decent alternative to a Premier Inn.

The Village Hotel group oversell rooms in the same way airlines do, hoping a certain % don’t turn up.

RC and Todd Trosclair spotted at the ground in some ‘Make Reading Great Again’ hats.

It’d be more fun if they weren’t actually fans of the Orange man.

Todd has his say:

"Royals,

The Big Three have been working very hard and are perfect harmony with each other. I have a great feeling about today and an even better feeling about what the rest of the week will bring.

FOOTBALL FOR THE PEOPLE.

Get your tickets while you still can!"

Love his enthusiasm, but lets hope these words have actions (& contracts) attached.

Reading owner Rob Couhig has confirmed that a new investor was present at Saturday's pre-season friendly with Tottenham Hotspur, but warns supporters that it will not change the plan.

Couhig and Todd Trosclair, along with Alec Lundberg, took charge in May and within a month Aliya Capital Partners' Ross Kestin joined the board to assist in pushing the club forward.

Hinting at new investors in recent interviews, Couhig confirmed to The Reading Chronicle in a sit-down at Bearwood Park that the plan was going ahead and the investor, another American, was among the 22,000-strong crowd for Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Spurs.

While accepting that it is of interest to supporters, Couhig admitted that he has been surprised at the level of interest.

"We have one who was here this weekend," he told us in an exclusive interview on Monday. "I find it funny how fans are fascinated by the investors. We have Aliya and these guys; Todd and I still own the vast majority. These guys are putting in money and it’s nice to have their support, but it’s not like anyone would come in and say, ‘let’s buy a striker.’

"It is a little bit pretentious, but I think they’re in because they know how we run a club and not vice versa. It’s nice to have them and they each add a diversity of opinion. The Aliya guys and I are very sympatico on modern technology. The other investor has a more youthful approach to it and understands the technology but also knows almost every player in the league."

Over in the country for the rest of the week, and expecting to be in the UK monthly until the end of the year, Couhig spoke of the changes taking place around the club and how high his expectations are for his staff.

"My wife warned me not to be a seagull and come over to dump on people," he joked. "Joe and I talk every day, Noel and I talk almost every day, Phil and I talk every day or almost every day. I talk to Tim every day. It is not a big deal.

"What I get involved in is meetings with people that you can’t have on the phone. We met with the school where the Academy kids go today. I will meet with other people during the course of the day.

"I think more gets done when I’m here because I come with a checklist and I’m pretty pushy with what I want. I’m rolling in at 7.30am waiting for everybody and it doesn’t hurt."

One such jobs to do is working with Landways, the company behind a consultation on improvements at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Now over, Couhig has confirmed that it is all systems go in RG2.

"There are lots of problems that have to be solved- we can do a patch and a lick here and there but there is a lot of hard work that has to be done. We are trying to find out to do it in the interim.

"’ll give you an example, we need to change our sound system for the stadium but today I signed a contract with Landways where they can come in and put temporary sound and some other temporary fixes so two-thirds of the stadium will have much better sound. Then we will begin gradually working on WiFi throughout. We are neck-deep in discussions with hospitality people and concessions- I think we will have some pretty good things for people.

"We are committed to Landways and the whole overhaul. You will be able to see what is going on and how it is going. We are doing the things I mentioned with the hospitality people; fans are going to try and help us out with the bathrooms. It will be an interesting three or four months to get it up.

"I look at it in stages: the first stage is ‘are we going to be ready for opening day?’ The second stage is ‘we will be ready by November 1 to be in good shape for the festive season?’ Then we begin work, in early spring, so by the time we open for the next season everything will be in place."
