If we do have a terrible time its going to be a difficult decision for the owner. He does need to stay within the Reading structure though.
It will be interesting to see how much patience the owners have. They won't want to stay in this league much longer with our infrastructure.....we aren't Wycombe and our costs are much higher.

Royalcop We as fans might not lose patience if we have a slow start but I’m not sure we can say the same about the owners. Incumbent managers often don’t last long after an ownership change and I think the new regime won’t be slow to make a change if we start badly. What’s Gareth Ainsworth up to now anyway?

I really don’t know why everyone is so obsessed with Ainsworth.

He didn't do well at QPR, he finished bottom with Shrewsbury and he's currently managing Gillingham, who didn’t look all that in preseason.

I hardly think Couhig is going to go and just run and hire him at the first opportunity because he did ok at Wycombe 4 years ago.

Todd giving Noel his backing on X. Hopefully, that’s not ominous.

I love Noel and he’s still learning. I just want to see him develop a style of football that works. It feels a bit like McDermott ball atm, but without the same quality out wide.

I was expecting us to give Pompey a tough game on Saturday, but we were very poor. Pompey could have doubled their goal tally and we barely had a chance. At least there’s a long way to go, but realistically we’ll do well to finish top half.

Dont think the fans are obsessed with Ainsworth because they rate him.
But because he already has a relationship with him e.g. JJ

He’ll probably always be questioned because of how he got the job

I see lots of positives with Hunt, genuinely likeable guy, good motivator etc. but he obviously lacks experience. I don’t think they’ll look to kick him out at the first opportunity

Tactically I’ve definitely concerns - not saying I know loads better or anything, but at times we do seem to be completely done on a tactical side. Like Saturday - where player for player we did ok but couldn’t cope with a fairly simple Pompey tactic of getting in behind and putting in low crosses

I don’t really get this inverted winger thing either. Garcia is very left footed and Kelv is predominantly right footed - they quite often seem to be spending time getting it onto their stronger foot. I know it seems almost accepted than Kelv is a left winger but I don’t really get why - I think he’d be more effective on the right and Garcia left

It's just the modern way isn’t it?

Wingers haven't been there to go outside and cross for years. And with only 1 striker doing that is far less effective anyway.

These days wingers are there to cut inside and shoot. I would say Kelvin actually goes round the outside and to the byline more than most wingers we've had in ages.

The Todd email was likely in response to a number of the usual Twitter idiots saying they were setting up Noel to fail so they could bring in Ainsworth.

Dunno, some teams certainly don’t use inverted wingers. Portsmouth ruined us by putting wide and getting crosses in exactly that fashion. Forest in the prem is one that comes to mind though tbf no idea what is the favoured foot of their wingers. I think it was what Chem Campbell was meant to, and occasionally did provide, last year

Just seems we’ve assumed it as a tactic which isn’t actually working brilliantly

Campbell was actually better when he switch to the left last season, not sure he beat his man once on the right.

Why would anyone hope he fails.....especially the owners? They have spent a fortune buying the club and need a quick turnaround......

Whilst a new regime often want to clear the decks of those who worked for the old regime, It's clear to anyone that Noel Hunt was no fan of the old regime (who was?) and his loyalty is to the club.... he's also proven/in form and the cheap option.

Yes, if the season starts really badly (first 10 games) for no obvious reason outside of the managers control then they will give him his P45.

He did an unbelievable jobs last season None of us expected us to finish as high as we did. We sold our two best players. We go into this season without our top scorer last season’s center backs no forwards. And the total ambition of the new owners is a free transfer from Crawley town. If he keeps us in the division he would have done a remarkable job.

I must say he cut a frustrated figure in the Pompey post match interview and I feel for him. He's exactly the type of bloke we need at the helm but due to his inexperience he needs some proper backing. Despite not being a twitter head case I'm already losing a bit of patience with the new owners. Nobody likes being bullshitted.
