Stranded
Royals and Racers
Royals and Racers Reading v Chelsea FA Youth Cup 4th round is on Wednesday 14th January at the SCL KO 7pm

We now have a totally unnecessary clash of fixtures with Chelsea 1st team playing Arsenal in the 1st leg of the EFL cup semi. Surely enough time if the will is there to find another day for the game !!

I would be surprised if many Chelsea fans are that fussed and would travel to an away Youth Cup game (or even watch it if streamed) to be fair.

Plenty at Staines in the previous round when they played Brentford. If there wasn’t a clash i would guesstimate around 300 Chelsea fans at the SCL.

Have to say, I was impressed by Chelsea and they were a clear level above us - their ball control; passing; decision making; composure.

Borgnis kept us in the game well, although made a huge error for their third goal. We fought well, but the better side won - you can see why Chelsea are where they are in the U18 league and why they've brought through so many young players into the first team recently if that's the standard of their U18s.

I thought it was an excellent game having seen us stutter through the 1st and 2nd Rounds. Even though Chelsea and ourselves are both Cat 1 academies, they were on a different level above but credit to the team, thought they played really well and easily the best performance we had put in the competition. On another day we would have found that equalizer and forced extra-time.

Management team and owner (on crutches) all in attendance.

Of course if Reading could spend hundreds of millions on attracting all the best youngsters from across the world like Chelsea it would have been different :?

We can have another go at them in the league in a couple of weeks.

Out of interest (after Brogue's post) did you notice if Joe Jacobson was present?

I was sat in front of the owners box and didn't see him personally but none of the individuals who were in it came outside to watch in the seats, they all stayed inside.
