Has a club ever been sold at an auction ? Might not get quite as much cash but cuts out all the exclusivity / due diligence nonsense that is messing things up so far.
Imagine we got bought by a local builder who thought he was bidding on the next lot - Victorian terrace on Liverpool Rd in need of complete modernisation. Guide price £120k.

Many times, if you consider that any club being bought out of administration is effectively an auction, where the administrator will almost always recommend that the highest bidder will get to purchase them.

(Although obviously there are t&cs and complications due to the administration, so it's never quite as simple as that.)

If you bend the definition of ‘auction’ then pretty much any sale is an ‘auction’

Biggest ever attendance at a football match, assuming all those who claimed to have witnessed that Robin Friday goal were actually there.

The record for “scoring” the most league non-goals:

Watford (a) 2008-09
Rochdale (h) 1975-76

Would this also mean an ex-Reading player has the record for not-scoring the most non-goals? Assuming someone was credited with scoring both of those goals

The Watford goal was credited to John Eustace (own goal), but imo should have gone to Noel Hunt.

The Rochdale goal was credited to Tommy Youlden.

Searches mostly bring up the opposite - legitimate goals not allowed - but I'd be surprised if Youlden is the only player to ever score a ghost goal. I guess he probably holds the joint-record. Frankly I'm not sure whether we have comprehensive enough records to be certain of this sort of thing anyway.

Given that the Tommy Youlden’s ghost goal against Rochdale and Robin Friday’s wondergoal against Tranmere were scored in the same season, there must be a number of people who (like me) were at both games. The previous season’s home game against Rochdale was when Robin celebrated scoring the only goal by kissing a policeman, but I didn’t go that night (the only home game I missed between 74/75 and 79/80).

Found another record held by the club that will never be beaten.

Prior to 1925/6, when a player committed a foul throw the “punishment” was to award a free kick to the opponent. In the FA Cup in 1924/5 Reading were beaten 1-0 at home to Darlington with the goal coming direct from such a free kick. As a result Reading are apparently the last Football League club to concede a goal as a result of this decision.

Arthur Wilkie is the only player in the Football League (inc PL) to start a match as a goalkeeper and score twice in that game, which he did for Reading (v Halifax in August 1962)

I think Dick Habbin may hold the record for most league games played in a season....we sold him I believe in 1974/75 season to I think Rotherham who were well behind in their fixtures so he ended up playing over 50 league games that season.

Don’t we hold the record for the latest goal ever scored. Gilkes a penalty at like 10:30 at night or something like that

Amazing! We’ve also played more games at Elm Park than any other team. Perhaps we should move to Wembley
