Yes completely agree re Twitter, but something's not right with this appointment. It doesn't take that long to get a work permit, particularly for someone who's worked in the UK recently...was also nowhere to be seen on Sat.

Season starts 3 weeks Sat....no players, no manager...very worrying if we go another week with nothing

I was fairly positive until the end of last week. However, even ignoring the rubbish on Twitter things are obviously not right. I think for the first time since the days of Maxwell I am really starting to fear the worst.

Also, unless a local billionaire wants to buy the club I don’t see us getting any buyers. I can see why someone like Mike Ashley wanted to buy Coventry and Derby but I don’t think we hold the same attraction.

Think we’d be more attractive than that pair personally

Wonder what Dai would take to sell?

None of us know if Selles' work visa has come through yet. You would have assumed so though, which would then be odd that we haven't agreed the contract.

Even if Dai literally can't send us a penny right now, this is the one time of the year where we should have the cash to engage in normal business. Season tickets, tv money, up-front sponsorship. I know we have higher outgoings than other clubs, but surely we can't rinse through millions in the space of a few weeks?

Mike Ashley is from Maidenhead originally, but despite growing up in the area he was a Spurs fan, not us the Super Berkshire carpet ballers.

Mike Ashley ran Newcastle in a solid way in terms of financial stability. He got a vast amount of stick, but he did invest his own money - just not in the same amounts as other PL clubs. Ironically, the biggest problem the club faced was that fan reactions to him was so hostile that it deterred commercial partnerships and reduced matchday income. I get the impression that he would do well with us.

Really don't see why we'd be any less attractive than Coventry were. How many league clubs have gone out of business because no one wanted to buy them in the last 20 years... its just Bury isn’t it. And loads have been at panic stations. We only cease if Dai doesn't want an owner. Even if carrying on means years of L2 or NL.

Also, oxf*rd Billionaires. Give me a multi-millionaire to whom a few million means something and will run us with a degree of sanity.

There's no point in a billionaire, they can only put in £13m a year in the Championship and look where that got us.

If the entire football system in this country (and many others) wasn't so bent and geared towards the clubs who "have" already there might be a modicum of hope and sense permeating the rest of the teams in the league. Holding out for the vain hope that the fan led review might actually go through and go a little way to prevent some of the over the top stupidity and selfishness that's all the rage with clubs in the league at the moment.

I’d settle for a multi millionaire who could run the club sensibly over the next few years.

I mentioned Coventry purely on the basis that they’ve sold almost 18,000 season tickets and I could see that appealing to a new owner. We’d need someone like Mike Ashley to see that our fans would come flocking back if we had something to cheer.

Wasn't thinking about comparing to Cov now. Obviously a Championship club on the up is more attractive than a L1 club in the shit. Although we'd likely be a bunch cheaper.

But a few years ago they were in a pretty dire state.

We've had benevelence, I'd like competency. And he ran Newcastle on a budget despite the spend spend spend Geordie demands.

Most importantly he managed to appoint proper football managers during his time rather than a load of overrated coaches.

Carver, Shearer and McClaren were hardly roaring successes...

We'd do well with Ashley because of the aforementioned, he knows how to sensibly run a club which is exactly where our success came from 15 or so years ago and is precisely what we need now, because we've seen how bad things get when it goes the opposite way.

Isn't that why we follow football as fans though. It's a real life soap opera. No guarantees of success. .

Is Selles actually going to sign? What is taking so long? The work permit situation is beginning to smell a little. I would have thought it would be straightforward as he was at saints last season. Will he be at Sutton on Saturday? Anyone any ideas?
