Brogue
stealthpapes copying from another thread, but its Squad based, so.

It's a bit light on quality and goals, but not too bad...

AM: Knibbs, Elliott, Kyerewaa
RW: ??, Garcia, Osho
ST: O'Mahoney, Tuma, Okine-Peters
LW: Ehibhatiomhan, Camara

If we thought relying on Wareham as a 'lead the line' striker was painful, just you wait for Tuma starting up front.

The first team here is, I think, pretty solid.

Knibbs, Elliott, Kelv, behind a highly rated youngster.

Any injuries and M8 it's downhill fast.

you can remove knibbs....

Same point from a worse starting point.

Constant whining is really growing tiresome now. I’m not going to pretend the squad is looking in great shape but certain people seem to be just looking for an excuse to find something to moan about.

As we appear to be trying to save money, could we be in an either/or situation - keep the Academy but get cheap players or close the Academy however we can then use the savings to buy "better" players?

I wonder what the Twitter reaction would be if Couhig decided to close the Academy and used the saving on big name signings?

Fair point on the academy

And as I’ve said a few times I’d have no real issue with starting the season as we are now squad wise. We’ve loads of options all over the pitch - some just happen to be academy lads. Give them a go

My mine issue with Portsmouth game was we the players who could have started/ come on sooner. Osho, Ahmed, Dorsett, Stickland. Granted Osho and Ahmed may have played in the morning game

I’ve plenty of faith that Kelvin/ O Mahoney/ Garcia-Osho-Camara can do a perfectly adequate job up top as well

We obviously needed a few bodies in because of the departures, but from what I've seen, out home grown players look better than our new signings (Kyerewaa might be the exception - he may well turn out to be a good fit as we are a bit lacking in pace).

We clearly need more firepower up top - O'Mahoney shows no signs of knowing what an attempt on goal might be - but other than that, I put my trust in our academy graduates. And that, rather than bringing in players who are here for the big wages rather than the big project, is what I was hoping for.

We do obviously need more depth for the rest of the season

I’d argue O Mahoney has had next to zero service of any use. Don’t think you can make a great judgement other than he’s quite big and works hard

He has scored 3 in 13 in the champ though and 14 in 21 Prem League 2 games, so clearly can score a goal.

Yeah. Whilst you're happy seeing Garcia on the wing, I think its a significan factor in O'Mahoney getting no service. One argument against him is the terrible airkick the one time he did get a chance.

We looked much more threatening when Kelvin got going those few times than with Camara or Garcia playing wide, imo.

After watching a few games I think I’d prefer Osho or Kyeweraa. At least at RW

If only there was a middle ground. You can't tell fans it's going to be a spectacular transfer window then blame them for having unrealistic expectations.

The thing is, and the soundbites were a big mistake, is that the owners have been clear this is a five year job to steady the ship and get back to being a Champ club - however, people on social media tend to have short attention spans so forget or ignore that in preference to quick, positive soundbites.

The problem with that particular soundbite is it can mean many things to different people - to him it may mean we'll have a strong squad based on young players we have developed but for someone on X, it means, we are going to sign 12 players, each more amazing than the on before and when that doesn't happen the noise is intolerable.

Something does appear to be going wrong this summer and the lack of attacking signings to date is frankly not a good look even if there are valid reasons for it.

I think you can blame people for not just rolling their eyes and ignoring obvious American hyperbolic bullshit.

We’ve known we need to replace smith since January. The fact we are 4 days from the start of the season and have no striker in yet, Regardless of sound bites is piss poor.

As said. something does appear to have gone wrong and the obvious place to look is the finances i.e. the owners either can't or won't break whatever the budget is. In some ways, given our history that is good but if it means what we can offer is out of whack with most other L1 clubs then we are going to struggle to get players in.

Right, we're going to use one of our few loan spots for someone to play U21 football, sure.

Great - based on a couple of friendlies against higher div teams with zero service

He may end up as shite but give him a chance. I’ll guess he’ll score more than Twitter hero Devante Cole this season
