Loafer How many seasons have we been lucky to have not gone down only because despite how atrocious we've been there have somehow been 3 worse teams then us?

How long can we keep treading this thin line?

Who knows but an interesting* point when looking at the table, shows just how poor the bottom 3 have been in failing to really take advantage of us being so shit.

On 2nd Jan, the current bottom 4 had the following points

Reading 21
Peterborough 19
Barnsley 14
Derby 10

After today

Reading 29
Barnsley 25
Derby 24
Peterborough 23

So, despite picking up 8 points from the last 42, we have actually doubled our lead over the bottom 3. We are 2 points better off than we were going into the Derby game on the 3rd Jan.

Despite us being atrocious, Barnsley have only clawed back 3 points and Derby 6 in 14 games, whilst we have opened up a wider gap to Peterborough.

It is absolutely crazy. Our luck has to run out at some point.

In answer to how many seasons have we been lucky to stay up, it's definitely two, maybe three or four. Plus this one if we survive.

Think it already has.

Since the 2nd January we've played 13 league games and kept one one clean sheet. That was against Peterborough. In the other 12 we've conceded 36 goals. An average of 3 a game. Was shipping out Moore the correct option? Might have been better to sell John Swift while we could still obtain a fee.

The first bit is my point. We've been so bad yet not been caught.

I fully expect Derby to get no more than a point on Tuesday but Barnsley to win, whilst we ship another 4 but we'll still be in the driving seat.

And no shifting Moore was the right call, the wrong call was not finding another defender to replace him.

That would only work if Swift was willing to sign a contract elsewhere. From what he has said (according to the media) he was not interested in going anywhere in January. He stated that he wanted to help keep us in The Championship.

Sod pace, I'd be happy with one that can defend.

Translated, that means he wanted to stay until his contract runs out so he can then move on to a mid/lower Premier League team with a much bigger signing on fee than if he had gone in January, which would have cost the buying club a transfer fee the bulk of which he (and his agent) will now get..........

Exactly. That was also my thoughts, but you put it much better than I would have.

6 straight away defeats for Derby though. With just 2 goals in that time.

Got 0-0 all over it.

Barnsley are most likely to stay up I reckon. Been in this situation a good few times and used to playing “ugly” and fighting. Reading will have big problems when they go to Oakwell in 3 weeks time.

Yep. Can see them working harder and scrapping harder than us. We could go there on the back of five straight defeats. Our goal difference is also a big problem for us now.

Still in the driving seat? Only a point ahead of Barnsley with a worse goal difference and having to play them at Oakwell.

So Blackburn’s poor form will continue against Derby (terrible away) but their issues will somehow be resolved when they play us?

I never cease to be amazed how little faith our fans have in Reading while fully backing our rivals

Well, when you are not scoring many goals, the team you'd want to play is the team with the worst defence in the league which is ourselves (joint with Peterborough). Derby have conceded not shy of half as many as what we have, 31 less goals to be exact. So no, it's not their problems will magically resolve themselves, but they are not going to get a better chance to score goals in a game, statistically speaking anyway.

As long as we are 4th from bottom, we are in the driving seat to stay up.

Yes, it's in our hands. Match their results and we stay above them

Not of late. Been below us in the form table for a few games now.

6 straight defeats away, not saying they won't win but more chance of Blackburn scoring than Derby winning I would say.

We can even afford to lose there and finish 1 point ahead if we match their other results.
