pea Why are people still surprised that Cummings is excellent?

This.

Cummings didn't have a bad game all last season. He is a decent player despite his dodgy start to his Reading career.

Played very well on saturday, got forward well, defended as solidly as ever, was crossing the ball in with both feet.

I was disappointed he wasn't given a chance at the start of the season at RB, Brian seems to not rate him too much he drops him so much! The guy can play though.

For me the most impressive proof of that was when he was slung in on the wing in the play-off semi away to Cardiff. It must make Brian very content knowing that even if three of his wingers get injured at the same time, he has this ace up his sleeve.

Maguire Nothing sadder in life than people who think football is so important they actually care when anyone else arrives or leaves.

Similarly, there's not much in life* that grinds my gears more than some fat-necked retard shouting "stay in your seat" or "fack of you plastic" at me if I decide to go five minutes before the end of the game.

*rape, genocide, ryanair

fack off you plastic

Royal Prince show some gratitude by applauding them off

gROFLatitude

I help pay their fooking (massive) wages. If anything they should show their gratitude by lining up and clapping me as I walk back to the bus stop.

Agreed, I'd like to see this, and if you take the same approach of diplomatic persistence that got you a moderator position then I fully expect to see a tunnel of players applauding your stroll to the line up buses with Pavel Pogrebnyak patting you on the back in gratitude as you step on the bus waiting for you.

Yep, and the likes of Pearce and Roberts will be coming on the internet criticising players who try to get home early instead of applauding my stroll back into the Oakford.

floyd__streete Sadly, that is perhaps as well as we can possibly play and we still let a lead slip twice, fail to win and concede our minimum two goals a game. Pearce being dropped and Gorkss retaining his place is a bit of a joke tbh.

I agree with that going forward but we could have done (and can do) better defensively, especially for their goals - the whole team switched off for their 1st so no pressure on the ball and the finish, although it was superb from Ba to get that on target.

The second again was poor marking and the cross came in too easily (a bit harsh on Cummings who was my MOTM) - I also have a feeling that Feds would have saved it, not that I'm blaming McCarthy or calling for him to be dropped.

Is that why our players all stopped for their 1st goal

At the time i was all like "feck, why couldn't you chumps concentrate for a bit after we scored" but once i saw it on telly iot was actually a skillz ball and extremeely tidy finish and the centre halves weren't in a particularly bad position

Fed would of saved it mind

First one was an amazing finish with the emphasis on ZING

Second one - way too little pressure on the ball allowing him to deliver at a whim. Got to get tighter than that.

ReadingJim Can't believe the early leavers though - ffs, yeah go and get to your car if it's a crap match and a foregone conclusion but come on - this was an absolute nail-biter to the end.

.

really irritating- oxf*rd premiere league tourists.

Went to a Newcastle United reserve game at a small ground a few years ago. Michael Owen turned out for Newcastle. About 20 minutes into the 2nd half, Owen was taken off and most of the crowd got up and left. Being a small ground, everyone walked along beside the pitch so it was obvious they were leaving. Felt quite upset for the players as they tried to carry on with the game.

pea Every time he came into the side the season before our fortunes changed, last season he held down his place for the first time and was extremely consistent, he has a brilliant attitude and has always been patient and confident in his own ability, even when we didn't take him on our preseason tour and were expecting to let him go. Can't praise him enough personally, terrific professional and I hope he gets the chance to prove himself at this level because I'm sure he'll step up to the challenge.

Perhaps they would do m8, but unfortunately you don't stick around long enough to find out.

I thought that Shorey's corners were pretty good.

The thing that concerned me was the length of time if took him to get back from taking a right side corner to his left back position. There was one that was cleared straight away and Newcastle attacked on their right while our left back was still the other side of the halfway line. I assume Cummings is supposed to swop sides until Shorey gets back but it didn't seem to happen.

Not a terrible angle...

Pretty irrefutable, Ba even admitted as such on MotD, but that image does make you wonder how the ref missed it.

For the ball to appear to the right of Ba it can only have got a glancing header, which would sent the ball to McCarthys left. However, the handball completely changed the angle of the ball sending it to McCarthys right.....hard to understand how he could miss that....

Maybe another example of ref's not having played the game enough?

Nothing to do with playing the game, it's basic physics. Although in the ref's defence it'll have happened at high speed and at a distance. It's all very well having a still photo of it, but if the ref blinks at the wrong time or isn't focusing on that specific point at that time he wouldn't have seen it. And he may well have thought something odd happened, but he can't be sure it was handball unless he saw it, and if he can't be sure he can't rule it out.

Just wanted to add that I thought Cummings had a good game. (Mainly posted to get my number of posts into 4 figures.)

I agree. Allowing Torres' offside goal was very bad linesmanship, but although I'm pissed off the goal stood on Saturday, it was really tough for the ref to see it. None of the crowd seemed to have seen it, and I was wondering what our lot were complaining to the ref about. Pissed off as I am, I cant really blame the ref.

Other than Ba tapping his right arm with his left hand, then shrugging his shoulders with a big grin on his face while he was celebrating. I would have done at that point what the Italian ref did with Klose and ask him point blank if he knocked the ball in with his hand/arm...
