Sarah Star I keep wondering if the delay is because he really doesn't want to stay and is delaying it until the fuss has died down so he can break it to us gently.

No i think he is staying but they are discussing his wages - they wanna half it, i doubt he'll wanna accept that!

His wages will be already defined in his contract, probably more to do with his role in transfers

Kebe can't be all that bad. He's made the Mali squad, and Cisse hasn't.

Baines I expect that Coppell gave himself a date prior to which he wouldn't make any firm decision, so that his decision-making wouldn't be clouded by the emotion of relegation/the last day or, as it turned out, the fans' appeal.

That would fit in with what he said immediately prior to the Derby game and also following the fans' appeal.

Perhaps the relevant date is at the end of the season, i.e. after the Champions League final, or at the end of the month.

That makes some sense. The only problem being that he seemed to hint that last Monday would be D-day in the build up to the Derby match, and then last week the club gave him time to go off and consider things a bit more and I think then said it would make some announcement at the end of the week.

All these deadlines seem to be passing.

There are more quotes from Coppell in the EP today about what needs to be done to the squad for the new season and what went wrong last season. They make it sound like he's staying, but then Coppell has this turn of phrase which I think would make it sound that way even if he were leaving.

Could it be that the club are using the old politicians trick of holding on to good news, so they can quietly throw out some bad when they finally decide to let us know?

i.e. Great news Steve is staying! Oh and by the way we have sold these 5 players and season tickets will rise by 10% next season.

I heard at the weekend from a good source that Coppell's wages are a sticking point. Our chairman
is - surprise, surprise - playing hard ball over what'[s already agreed in SC's contract.

Doubtless JM will force him out, then say how hard he fought to make him stay....sound familiar?

brendywendy really dont get the delay

how/why has an announcement due for the end of last week, been postponed indefinately, and nothing been said by the club

what are the reason for this?

this was my original point before royallee got all mental on me

The delay in announcing what is going on gets more bizarre by the day.

I think we can be fairly sure that he is staying as there would be little point is delaying an announcement that he is off BUT what can be delaying the announcement that he is staying is hard to fathom.

Oddly, I take the opposite view. The longer this drags on the more I'm inclined to think that he's decided his heart's not really in it but wanted the weekend to sleep on it.

One way or the other the club need to clarify matters so we can all move on.

I'm with you on that one. I reckon he told them at the end of last week that, touched as he was by the show of strong support from both the Directors and fans, he felt it was best for him and the club that they went their separate ways. JM and NH then asked him to think it over one more time and come back to them after the weekend.

Whilst I would like him to stay, if he hasn't yet been able to come to a fully committed decision, I think he should go.

We need to move on now in a positive manner whether that be with or without Steve Coppell. Continued uncertainty does no one any good.

I really hope you are wrong - would be very sad if he leaves over money.

It would seem fair to me that he did only receive 50% of PL pay as he must take some of the blame for last season and £600K or so a year for a Championship manger would seem more than fair to me.

Hang on a minute, if his last contract had been drafted properly it should already have covered what would happen in the event of relegation, including salary payable.

If that is in his contract and the Chairman is now trying to renegotiate/get away from the provisions in the contract then that does sound pretty familiar! If it is the case then why the hell should SC move away from what had already been agreed would happen in the event of relegation?!

Will we end up being told the money was available to cover SC's salary whilst the club forget to mention that it only covered half his salary expectations?!

If the contract/money issue is genuine then I urge Steve Coppell to give the board an ultimatum - honour his contract or settle the matter in court. Forget football and us fans, honour comes first and I would not wish to work for a football club who refused to honour a perfectly valid contract of employment that they all parties were happy to sign up to.

However... there is nothing to stop both parties agreeing to a revised contract, perhaps one with a lower salary but a massive bonus based on performance.

Just thought.

Maybe John Madejski is waiting for Chris Tarrant to turn up and ask Steve Coppell for his 'final answer'!

I've just got back from a week in Spain, and unbelievably, I've just read all 65 pages (still in holiday mode, can't be arsed to work) & I'm really sorry to have missed out on the party at the parking slot!
Hope he stays, but I thought before the Derby game that he would go. I find it hard to believe that, with a contract still with a year left on it, there should be any negotiating about pay. Money for players' wages and transfers perhaps, but not manager's pay.

Then again, as he's never actually left, maybe they're just carrying on as normal and there'll be no big announcement.

I think you might be right, Sarah. Why the need for an announcement, it's business as usual, isn't it?

Today should be the day for an announcement, any further delay is unreasonable and disregards the feelings of the fans. What actually happens now is less important than the current dithering. He either stays or goes, we have to live with whatever decision is made, but no decision? :x

Hurry up and go Coppell so we can sort this mess out - you clearly have absolutely no respect for the club by fannying around having everyone chase you for an answer. It's your fault we got relegated, so stand up and be a man for once.

Is there going to be a "Please go now!" meeting at Coppell's parking space tonight?

I'm that bemused by his total lack of a spine that even if I was in the vacinity, I wouldn't waste my time on the guy.

How do you know that a decision has not been made?

What right do you/me/we have to be informed of any developments?

Also do you not remember how long it took to confirm Coppell's appointment? He is quite obviously a man who likes to take time to be sure of his decision, rather than making hasty pronouncements or shouting his mouth off for the sake of it and coming out with hackneyed, cliched nonsense(unlike some of us)

What are you talking about? Do you know anything about what SC is up to at the moment or where he is in terms of making a decision? How do you know the decision wasn't made days ago?

Also - who told you "everyone is chasing him for an answer"?

ALOL at people getting indignant at things they've made up themselves
