Struggling to care if we stay up or not at the moment

Certainly almost anything is better than the absolute toss that’s been served up this season

Obvs rather stay up but I could cope with getting relegated. Probably preferable than just another season of dire struggle

Here's a thought. Has Barnsley's good form come too early?

Don’t agree. If we go down I would expect us to struggle in League One. Transfer embargo, very few players under contract, no manager, ever dwindling crowds.
Think it will get worse.

No they strengthened in January and it’s showing.
Have we not learnt about Barnsley from last season?
We are a very poor side

Relatively big club with a wealthy owner, great training ground, promise of money to spend after next year and a clean slate player wise next year

It’s a fantastic opportunity for the right manager. It’s just appointing him or her

There are a good half a dozen sides in League One who are bigger than ourselves, not including Derby if they go down either.

So far Derby and Peterborough have got themselves in touch and then folded under the pressure when safety becomes a real possibility.

Maybe Barnsley will pip us again. But I wouldn’t bet on it right now.

4 points in 5 for Ince, after 6 points in 12 for Pauno. Squad mostly fit. Decent run of games coming up.

It's in our hands.

Yeah, I think we cab safely say whatever happens we'll start next season with a manager.

It was also 32 points from 32 games for Pauno this season. So we have averaged a point per game under him. So you can look at the statistics from a different perspective of course.

And you can say 5 games, of which 2 involved basically no prep time, isn’t enough to properly judge anyone.

And that Paunovic's form had us nose diving as it was getting increasingly worse.

You should also bare in mind Ince has been hired to deal with an enormous mess and no one actually expects him to be good. And he doesn’t have to be to succeed.

I think I mentioned that on another thread somewhere that both of Peterborough and Derby got close without ever getting above us. Of course it's different though now as the timing is different and its towards the back end of the season and Barnsley could well get out of it, but, as I say, has their good run of form just come at the wrong time, similar to Derby 6 weeks ago.

If they can sustain their form, they will stay up, but its the sustaining it which is the problem. I don't think they are blessed with quality, they've just got a brave, young and energetic side. It will be interesting to see who holds up in our game vs them when the pressure is really on.

I think yesterday's game with give us a lot of confidence that we can go toe to toe with teams and grind out a result. There's no hiding the obvious issues we have in the squad - but we can win some of our remaining games if we can get the right mentality.

Looking at Barnsley's fixture though you've got to imagine that there are quite a few points for them there. I'm expecting that the required survival amount is going to be near 40.

Barnsley have to go to 4 teams in and around the play-off positions and Swansea, their away form isn`t great. our game up there will be pivotal.

We'll know our fate after the next 3-4 games. Barnsley have most of them away, and we have more at home. If we don't make them count then we're in big trouble. It gives us a real opportunity to increase the gap on the bottom three.

We have now played all but 3 of the current top 11 sides in the division. Our remaining 9 fixtures are against sides which are currently in the following places in the division - 4/22/15/17/7/16/20/12/8.

I believe we have enough quality to win 4 of these games plus a draw or two - especially as a number of the teams we have left to play are not going to be either promoted or relegated and so have nothing much to play for. And if we don't and Barnsley overtake us, then frankly we deserve to go down.

Just looking at away form - the current bottom 3 combined have only managed 1 more point on the road than we've managed in the last 8 games and only Barnsley have won 1 in that time (they've lost the rest).

Yes our away form isn't actually "that bad" for where we are in the table. Even in our last 5, it's W1, D2, L2 which is probably what you'd see from an average mid-table side, maybe lower mid-table anyway.

Yep the 4 game away form table at the link below has in 15th spot (we are 19th over 8 games) with 4 points.

The bottom 3 have managed 4 points between them. With Peterboro & Derby accounting for 1 of those points. Blackburn are the other side in that bottom 3 with just 1 point in their last 4 trips.
