No doubt when Reading foolishly renegotiated rattle thrower Shunts new contract ,he probably got his own way in the negotiations of it and had a clause put in saying that if he was fit he had to play - god, Reading have taken it up the arse in so many positions from the guy, another position aint going to make much difference -

The guy never deserved an improved contact, at a critical time in the season as well - and I have said before, Im sure a number of the squad are totally pissed off with Reading giving in on this . now he's got his new contract he can continue to pay shit, execpt now its on more money!

Own goal from Chairman DOF and Coppell on this one

Certainly was readingbedding and made me proud to be part of a following that was prepared to show that sort of respect for an ex-player who, let's face it, we could certainly do with now.

Schards#2
brendywendy Rl- that just puts us in the same position as every other promoted small team. And schards-when we were shit i was on the south bank, on the pitch and with my head in my hands at a half empty madejski. Now they were awful seasons. This one still inspires me, and is far from dull. The last few games have been poor, but if you find pushing for promotion/playoffs dull and uninspiring, this only demonstrates youre falling out of love with football itself.

How many hours without a Reading player scoring will it take before you accept it's dull.

We can't be too far off a club record already. Seriously, what will it take? 15 hours? 20 hours?

You claimed it was dull and uninspiring when were scoring 3 goals or more per home match. If you wait long enough the majority of predicitions and opinions eventually happen. If this was the first time you had written them your "dull and uninspriring" comments might old more weight.

One thing worried me more than anything yesterday. Who else noticed that when we were (counter) attacking very few Reading players were making the effort to support the attack? No wonder we're not scoring. This suggests lots of things but mainly lack of motivation despite the clap trap about the lads at least gave their best efforts nonsense that we're getting from Rosenior, Federici, Harper, etc, when they're asked for their views in interviews. The best teams always move forward in numbers.

agreed

a few trimes a player got to the byline and had to hold it up in order that more than one player may get into the box
and people still groaned, apparently wanting him to cross it to no one

I'm more inclined to wonder where they were when our counter attack broke down and Forest did a counter counter attack?

If they weren't supporting the attack and they weren't back defending then where were they?

The space McGugan had to run into (unchallenged from inside his own half to the edge of our penalty area) was criminal.

And this time it couldn't be Harper's fault .
Anybody else notice that Marek let him stroll past him?

Well lets just give Marek the same number of games and opportunities as Harper and lets see where things stand then!

We looked good in the first 30-35 minutes,
Gunnar had a very good spell, and I am a not a gunnar fan.
Marek looked classy, but not match fit.
Kebe was woeful, Shunt had no idea.
Doyle & NHunt look better balance up front.
Tabb looked bright.
CB's looked ok.
Rosy and Armstrong looked ok.

And then after the 35 minute mark, they were all poor.

But I'm not panicking, just turn the corner, and we're on the run in.

Only 4 games without scoring, let's not leap off the roof yet.

I can't be bothered to check, but did this downturn begin about the time when Marcus was injured ? Does Marcus give us that something else, like motivation, in the changing room ?

I like the championship.

No. He tried to keep with him, when he knew he couldn't he gave up the chase and for some reason Peracey didn't close the guy down. Not blaming Pearce, but at some point the midfield always hands over to the defenders in this type of situation.

Great week-end of results apart from our own :|

It was an improved performance. Haven't read the whole thread, but anyone know what's going on with Bikey ? My mind's starting to create very odd and unhelpful reasons about why he's not even on the bench

Pearce and Doobs are ok, but they have zero ambition. Clearing to row Z may be reassuring sometimes, but Bikey can bring the ball down and get things started. He also scores at set-pieces. We need a goal.

--Other than that, get Murty back. He's more composed and has a better touch that Rosenior.

--Tabb for Shunt. If Shunt has to play, at least tell him he's not taking any dead-balls for a while. Give them to Marek and see how he goes.

--Marek and someone in midfield. Gunnar can do 60-70 minutes.

getreading.co.uk Reading FC v Forest - Player Ratings
By Jonny Fordham
March 02, 2009

Jonny Fordham gives us his player ratings for the match against Nottingham Forest.

Adam Federici - 6 - Great diving finger-tip save to deny Chris Cohen in the 58th minute, beaten by the quality of McGugan’s finish. Solid distribution.

Liam Rosenior - 6 - Worked hard in the first half to get forward and fired off a stinging 25-yard strike. Caught out a bit in the second half as he pushed forward.

Michael Duberry - 6 - Caught out for the Forest goal, but for most of the game the big Royals centre-back battled well and managed to keep the Forest attack at bay.

Alex Pearce - 6 - Developing well the more he plays but often looked uncertain when on the ball in defence. Will improve with more first-team opportunities.

Chris Armstrong - 5 - Had a relatively quite game defensively and didn’t get forward down the left as much as he would have liked to support Stephen Hunt.

Jimmy Kebe - 4 - Looked as if he would pull something off, then lost the ball. Had a few heavy touches and needs to rediscover his attacking flair to help get the front two firing.

Brynjar Gunnarsson - 6 - Should have scored from a Stephen Hunt corner. Put in some good tackles in the centre but looks short of the fitness needed to last the full 90.

Marek Matejovsky - 6 - Back in the starting line-up and showed some nice touches. One of Reading’s only creative players but he was at fault for McGugan’s goal.

Stephen Hunt - 5 - Showed his creativity with a cheeky corner but didn't have the best of games for the quality he possesses. The fans will want to see more from him.

Noel Hunt - 6 - Back in the starting line-up after a month out. Was a bit quiet and could have perhaps done better with his first-half header.

Kevin Doyle - 7 - Captain for the first time and looked dangerous in patches. Always gave 100 per cent. Needs a goal to kick start his season again.

Substitutes

Jay Tabb - 6 - Whipped in a nice cross with his left boot on his debut.

Kalifa Cisse - 5 - Failed to make any impact in midfield.

leroy Lita - 6 - Got a few shots away, but nothing that troubled Smith.

poohs pure
Schards#2 Somewhere in Snowball's blizzard of stats were some that tried to demonstrate that Kebe was a good finisher, something I laughed at.

When you see a player totally unmarked put it wide from 6 yards, you don't need any stats to know if he's a good finisher or not.

snowball, do not reply to this, you are not welcome on my thread.

Pardon me. I didn't realise you OWNED HNA, Sir. My 'umble apologies for living.

PS It ENT "your" thread.

Only four? Our goal against Wolves was an own goal.

The last 'Reading' goal by a Reading player was by Lita against Watford.

thats SIX games ago - or around 540 mins.

Glad you like the Championship - because I suspect we will be seeing more of it over the coming years.

Why could we do with him now? Do we really need a player who has not held a regular starting place at Forest due to injury, and if so who is he going to replace here?

A goals a goal NG, we won the game.

Can you honestly say the premiership is better ? 4 teams play better football, everyone else is trying to stay out of the relegation.

Well I liked being in the Premiership. The overall quality of games, from both Reading and the opposition, was far better than the weekly dross we are watching now.

Not sure about generally better - Bolton, Blackburn ?

Agree that my boy's park football is better than our current run of form, but when we turn the corner ............

poohs pure I don't think I saw more than 3 consecutive passes in Forests' half, blame that on choosing the wrong option more than not and blame that on no real aggressive movement.

What about the brilliant move, interpassing and finished with Keb's cross
straight on to Noel Hunt's head? (But he headed straight at the keeper)

That was a fabulous move.
