A:im not sure .75 million is decent money in prem terms, though it obviously is for us.
B:and personally i think cisse will be challenging both brynn and harps for their places within a few weeks of the season starting.

and C:, i was simply answering the assertion that there would be no reason to sign someone who was currently not as good as the others we have already.

this is clearly untrue

look at bikey, he was not as good as the other options when he signed, but he had potential, which he then started to fulfill, and then started to push for the 1st choice place, and will most likely replace Ivar before too long

Because you keep changing your mind. Bikey had the luxury of time last season, until Sonks got injured and even then we bought Doobs in just in case he didn't sort himself out and Gunnar could cover there. We don't have this luxury in the centre of midfield this season, hence why it would make no sense to bring Cisse in as a potentially good player. He will be thrown in the deep end from the off, not in a few Cup games and when someone gets injured.

ive not changed my mind

and your point completely ignores the fact that we are going to buy a decent midfielder before the window closes
if we did not, it would have been pointless buying cisse, if he wasnt good enough,

your daft point says that no team should buy a player that is any worse than what they have

what would teams like manchester united do? they buy ronaldo, he is fantastic, then cannot ever bring in anyone in in that position who is not as good. which would leave them very short of options

Really? Are we? You honestly believe it won't be a foreigner that we have never heard much of before. I think that's a little optimistic at this late stage to be honest.

You always strive to improve the quality of your team, you never buy just to fill positions. I'm sure that when Ferguson bought Nani, Anderson and Hargreaves that he would expect them to become better players than what he currently has at his disposal in those positions. What would be the point in buying a player for money that is worse than you already have, you might as well just stick an academy player in and save your cash.

thats just random!

no i dont, i never mentioned him being a foreigner, or otherwise
-the club have stated its most likely to be someone from europe though, and have intimated he will be higher profile than cisse was

my points were mostly hypothetical in response to the assertion that club X should only sign player Y if he is better than player Z,
which i said was wrong,

thats just what i said about cisse, that he will likely become a better player than brynn, and maybe even harps, but he may not be quite there yet, who knows, ive only seen him in one game, and listened to another
but im sure having looked at cisse, the management believe he will imporve and become better than the other options, just like ferguson at utd does about nani etc

not sure i ever said different
or are you humourously just doing what i complained about a minute ago
twisting what i said, and replying to random stuff i didnt really say?

FinchOwl It will be Gunn and Harper to start the season, and finally harper will be allowed to play the position that best suits him(IMHO) as an attacking midfielder. I have always felt he has had a better range of passing and better skills than Sidwell, but Sid was always percieved to be the better goalscorer so was given the more advanced role if you like when they played together. When Harper fist came to this club he was a bloke who could excite the crowd by taking people on, this has been lost over the years due to the systems and personnel employed by Mr Pardew and Coppell(which is in no way an attack on either, its just the way it has been, and in the most very successful) I am interested to see if Harper can rediscover this lost 'magic' and be our creative force, whilst Gunn holds in a deeper position. I was never Sidwells greatest fan, as i believed his 'energy and drive' often masked his failings, but dont get me wrong, he was a great player for this club. This aside we still need one more midfielder for the centre of the park, but i am of the opinion that Gunn and Harper will make a very good partnership, and we all have to accept that the balance of the team will be slightly affected by this permanent change of personnel in the midfield after 4 years of the Sidwell/Harper combo

As I have said elsewhere, if Gunnar starts when a fit Cisse is available then I would question why we ever bought him in the first place.

I have to join those who see this view as illogical at best.......................and almost certainly tainted by the fact that you don't rate Gunnarsson.

In my view, even for us £700k is no longer a large investment and, indeed, we spent more on Bikey who is by no means guaranteed a start, as is the case with Duberry who required a similar investment to Cisse.

We spent far more on Halford who never got beyond 4th choice right back :?

I, too, believe that Harper & Gunnarsson rightly have a head start on the others but look forward immensely to both Cisse and Bikey staking their claim.

Personally I would like to see Bryn get the shirt and play in centre midfield with Harper in a 442.

He has never let the team down and comes up with vital goals, therefore IMHO, he has earned the right to wear it and its up to others to take it off him.

If Cisse shows Sir Steve that he deserves a chance then he will be given it; it is then up to him to take the chance when offered.
