Compo's Hat
paultheroyal

I usually miss one or two games a season and the hat only comes out when it's cold. Cheers though!

Jeff was on good form at Watford.

I was low down but I'm sure that I heard "COME ON MY TEAM"

AthleticoSpizz remember paul black (and his chums) singing Irish Republican songs at that Cleethorpes place formerly known as Grimsby Town back in 1987.

We lost 3-2...Kevin Bremner scoring our second (his gap-toothed smile being the highlight of the day)

At that time a serving soldier (on leave from NI), I have never embraced the admiration that most of you seemingly have for this Paul Black fellah.

but it was a long time ago.................

I'm ambivalent about him.

EVERYONE knows who Paul Black is - I can't see him wanting an injunction for someone daring to post his pic on here!

In an echo of Athletico Spizz's post on this subject I had the pleasure of standing next to Paul Black on the terrace at Birmingham in 1990 whilst he was spouting his stupid pro IRA songs. As a seviceman myself at the time who had served in Northern Ireland, I found this particularly annoying and provocative but couldn't get away from him.
When Gilkesy scored that late winner to scupper Birmingham's play-off plans I was already doubting my chances of getting back to the coach in one piece but the walk back to the coach park was made all the more interesting when Mr Black appeared and proceeded to wind up the Brummies with yet more stupid songs about the Zulu Warriors. How we got out of there alive God only knows.
Since that day I've always given him a wide berth when I've seen him at away matches.

I couldn't believe it when he was named 'supporter of the Millenium' or something similar by Boyd Butler years later. I bet if the bigwigs at RFC stood next to him at an away game they'd have a slightly different view of him!!

This.

In real life he's a very odd character - and not in a particularly endearing way.

The above story rather shocks me given that Mr Black has always come across as a rather nice chap in my experience  . Particularly when I bumped into him at a random non-RFC Wycombe home game. Certainly far preferrable to the vast majority of drones, chavs and middle-class wet lettuces who support RFC.

One (or possibly more than one) of those descriptions matches me!!! (Defo the last, probably the first and possibly the middle one!) [See, I've even proved it by saying "defo" and (over-)using parentheses.]

I am definitely the first description and I aspire to the third. This is turning into a Frost Repot sketch, I fear.

Was Mr Black singing Hold him down, you Zulu warrior?

This is a traditional rugby club drinking song. I wouldn't have thought that was Paul Black's scene.

As for pro IRA songs, I'd have thought that "No surrender to the IRA" was more in his line.
