ZacNaloen Now be fair, Reading FC have have had a high wage bill for the champhionsip for some time, it's the main reason we've had to sell to buy. No room to maneuver in the budget. This will be no different to when we last came down from the Prem. Big attempt to get back up first time (although we'll actually have two seasons of decent parachute payments this time, so maybe we'll have two seasons of paying high) and re-adjust after that.

Well yeah, we were fourth when we went up weren't we?

Surely our income can't [normally - excl. para payments] be as high as a lot of mid table teams, Wednesday, Leeds, etc?

YateleyRoyal Surely, until anything is confirmed, and not just by an 'unnamed source close to the player', then this is a rumour?

More than a rumour though - he even admitted he was "in talks" a few weeks back

Hal Robson-Kanu ‏@RobsonKanu 23s
Seems I have been mis-quoted by the press. Just to clarify I am currently in talks with Reading to extend the year remaining on my contract.

HRK new contract?

by paddy20 » 08 Jul 2013 17:51

According to EP he is about to sign a new 3 year contract making him one of the highest earners at Reading. If this is true I think this may be one of the biggest cock ups of the Adkins era. At best an average player who performs well when playing half a game. What most of the rest of the squad think when they start comparing their salaries against their worth if this is true one can only imagine. Unrest in the camp?? I have watched him throughout his time at Reading and can only remember half a dozen or so good performances. Not knocking the bloke and good luck to him but I hope the management are not treating him as Macd did with Church ( that development never came). Real quality shows through over a reasonable period. Unfortunately so far it hasn't in my opinion with HRK.

Your email barely warrants a response but for anyone who actually watched matches last season they will know HRK was one of the stand out players and hence why he won young player of the year awards as voted by the fans. I for one will be delighted if he signs up as he could be a key player for us next season and if we get promoted again. Clearly he will be one of the first choice wide players under Adkins.

Yeah, he did well.

One of our best players from last season rejects potential Premier League interest to commit his future to the club and all you can do his oxf*rd moan.

To be fair that may be called 'development', Paddy. I don't think he justifies being the highest earner, if he is then his brother's done oxf*rd well.

Happy we're getting everything sorted this pre-season...makes you wonder about McDermott's part in the Pearce situation and his general standing with the players when you see so many speak in the press about how happy they are with Adkins' style and see them signing new deals all of a sudden.

What a muppet - HRK was skills. Most improved player last season, with possible exception of Alex Mc.
Do you actually know a good player with great potential when you see one?

Lawn mower man - yes I do think I know a good player when I see one. Unlike you I don't find it necessary to be mildly abusive to anothers opinion. HRK has been decidedly average, he has scored some good goals in the box and hopefully is improving. The main point was that if he is being paid a salary that ranks with the highest this could cause unrest amongst the rest of the squad who may feel they are more deserving. On the other hand if he feels he is too good for the championship its a good bit of business on Readings part to tie him to a 3 year contract and then flog him next year. Ive watched football probably a lot longer than you ( cause Im quite old) and I cant think of many players that have gone through several average seasons and then become great

I think he will be one of the top 20 players in The Championship this year.

If you think being called a muppet is mildly abusive you probably shouldn't come on HNA?
However I think most decent judges of players would recognise that HRK is better than you say.
It is all just opinion for now, and not fact. Therefore neither of us are wrong.
However the club have just awarded the contract ...

If HRK signs, avoids injury and plays only as well as he did in the Premiership he ought to be scoring
BETTER (a lot better) that one goal every two games. He's strong, skilful and has a clear eye for goal
and he could well finish top-scorer in the Championship if he fits in with Adkins game plans

HRK got a goal every 182 minutes in the Prem last season! And his stats were better than all the other wingers

He played just 37% of the possible minutes last season, had he played 100% he'd've been on for 20 goals and 6 assists.

No, that doesn't mean he WOULD have got them, but he would probably have got 15 goals/4 assists or thereabouts

IMO he will be a top-top player and we should do everything in our power to hang on to him. Personally I think he will
soon be chosen ahead of McAnuff, whose role may well be to come on around 60/65 for Drenthe.

Premiership 2012-13

25 Appearances 01,279 Minutes 07 Goals 02 Assists 09 MCs - (1 MC every 182 Minutes) HRK <<<<<<<<<

23 Appearances 01,480 Minutes 05 Goals 02 Assists 07 MCs - (1 MC every 211 Minutes) Kebe
31 Appearances 01,597 Minutes 03 Goals 03 Assists 06 MCs - (1 MC every 266 Minutes) McCleary
38 Appearances 03,266 Minutes 00 Goals 09 Assists 09 MCs - (! MC every 363 Minutes) McAnuff

Premiership & Championship

105 Appearances 04,966 Minutes - 16 Goals - 11 Assists = 27 MCs = (1 MC every 183 Minutes) Age 24.1 HRK (IMPROVING)

Last Three Championship Season's

080 Appearances 03,687 Minutes - 09 Goals - 09 Assists 18 MCs (1 MC every 184 Minutes) HRK
