SCIAG If I could pick just one player then it would be Roberts. Immense hold-up play, great at bringing others into the game. Would help get the best out of our existing players.

If I were picking a whole team then I'd prefer Kitson and Sigurdsson. Little and McAnuff as starting wingers with Convey, Kebe and Long ready to inject some pace off the bench. Sidwell and Legs in midfield. Shorey at left back, Sonko and Ingimarsson at centre back. Not much to choose between Murty/Rosenior/Griffin/Gunter or Shaka/Marcus/Federici/McCarthy/Al-Habsi.

Shorey was obviously a ledge but if we are picking players at their prime wouldn't Wayne Bridge be a better shout?

Forbury Lion If we could bring back players in their Reading prime, I would being back the entire 106 squad plus Gylfi, Le Fondre, N Hunt, Al Habsi. Kebe and Jason Roberts with Steve Coppell as manager, Nicky Hammond as DOF and Brian McDermott as chief scout/Spare manager

I think this pretty much concludes the argument though I'd wedge Shane in there.
I counted Shane as part of the 106 squad.

Currently I would replace (these are just purely out absolute weakest spots so not including wingers because we have 700 of them)

Mannonne seems to be decent but he has made a lot of errors costing goals already. I don't EVER recall Marcus making one. If he did it didn't lose the game.

Musty over gunter. I feel gunter gets some flak but when he does it effects him badly. Murts was universally loved. Never heard a roar at mad stad bigger than when he scored that penalty.

Gunnarson. Quality player. Preferred him to Sidwell (tainted by the leaving to Chelsea) and Harper (I liked him but his style of football would be exactly the same as this team)

Doyle at any point, kitson circa 06/07, cureton, long in 2008/09. We have f all upfront. Eric obinna chukwenyelu could really add to our team now.

You obviously weren't at the Birmingham City match on the last day of the 2008/09 season were you.

Was that because you were at a Fleetwood game? Or was your head in the sand?

Jimmy Quinn
Mick Gooding
Adie Williams
Shakka Hislop

With that spine you can't fail!

God you are the most boring poster on here get over yourself
If you must know Fleetwood have only been good for a few years since I have been supporting them, before them I supported Burton Albion and Stockport county.

And for the sheer fun of it, Robin Friday

For pure entertainment value (kissing a copper after scoring and propping up the bar in the Spread, minutes before kick off) there was and always will be only one Robin Friday.

Hair to the shoulders, socks round his ankles but hey, what a player. Some of his touches were sublime. And then, to top it all, the ferocity of that shot against Tranmere. Wikipedia gives a very good summary of his life and career. Well worth a read. Let's face it, he would certainly liven proceedings up at the moment. Then again, Jaap Stam managing Robin Friday....now there's a thought.

Surely we're only considering how they did for us. Otherwise Les Ferdinand, Martin Keown and Yakubu would be absolute shoe ins. Not to mention World Cup Golden Glove winner Borislav Mikhailov.

double d What former players would you bring back into our current team and who would you replace? Do you think that any of our gr8s would be a good enough replacement for what we have now?

Fosters pace upfront?
Curetons fox in the box and poaching?
Glen little trickery?
Ivers leadership?
Shoreys composure?
Hislops solid keeping?
Scott murray?
Luke Chadwick?
Peter mate?
Michael dobson?

Who else?!

dave royal this thread sums you up, a complete waste of time.

Fair point. Shorey gets the nod then obviously.

Also sorry to be a sad sack but I think it's spelled "shoo in" remember reading it in a horse related article. Feel free to correct me if I'm way off board.

I'm guessing you meant players actually currently playing - in which case the only feasible, (and that's a stretch), would be Shane Long. Coming to the end of his career now, (Jeez I feel old - remember him starting out scoring twice in our 5-0 demo of Derby County in 2005-6??? Where has the time gone?!?!?), he would relish starting week-in week-out for a team playing good attacking football. Ideal replacement for Kermit.

Other than that, I'm stumped. HRK? No thanks. Anyone else?

Ali Al-Habsi is a pretty obvious omission there.

Bridge was absolute quality when he played for us but only managed a couple of games before injury. Similar deal with Anton Ferdinand or maybe Daniel Carrico.

Mikhailov; Griffin, M. Keown, A. Ferdinand, Bridge; Salako, Carrico, Baird, Oster; L. Ferdinand, Yakubu

Very defensive and with Oster clearly the weak point. Maybe put Vydra in his place? We don't sign enough washed-up wingers.

I don't think Vydra should be anywhere near our historical best XI personally.

Paul Brayson would be an improvement up front on what we currently have (Injured Kermorgant excluded).

If we had Dave Kitson from the 2005/6 season in the squad playing up front with the current squad now we would be winning games
