I need something to cheer me up after the Huddersfield debacle, so here goes.

The very first team to be eliminated from the 106 chase is … Arsenal

No but most are well off the pace at this point, Forest Green in League Two currently have the best PPG in the Football League and would finish on 101pts at current rate.

Fulham need 62 points from 23 games to beat 106, so dropping only 7 (they’ve dropped 21 so far)
Wigan need 61 from 25, so can still drop 14 (they’ve dropped 18 so far)
Forest Green need 62 from 26, so can still drop 18 (they’ve dropped 16 so far)

Not over by any means, but not yet anything to fret over

Maximum possible points total.

Championship

Fulham 114pts
Bournemouth 112pts
Blackburn Rovers 111pts
West Brom 110pts
QPR 110pts
Stoke City 107pts
Coventry City 106pts

League 1

Wigan Athletic 120pts
Rotherham 119pts
Sunderland 115pts
Wycombe Wanderers 114 pts
Oxford United 111pts
Milton Keynes Dons 110pts
Plymouth Argyle 109pts
Sheffield Wednesday 109pts
Portsmouth 108pts

League 2

Forest Green Rovers 122pts
Northampton Town 115pts
Swindon Town 111pts
Port Vale 110pts
Tranmere Rovers 110pts
Sutton United 108pts
Exeter City 108pts
Newport County 106pts

As tidus and franchise point out, nobody is ahead of the curve so form would have to improve over the second half of the season to get close.

From thread re Plymouth game in 1985/86 we'd all be seriously be wetting ourselves if a club had got 62 points by New Year

We had 66pts on New Year's Day 2006.

We picked up 40 pts in our remaining 19 fixtures. If we'd only averaged that through the whole season, we'd have still won the league by 2pts.

Out of interest is Reading’s worst league defeat the 8-1 stuffing at Burnley in 1930, if so then could this disaster be actually seen as worse than that as a) it was at home, b) it was in the league and c) the club failed at least to net a consolation in losing by seven.

At least we’re only concerned with four now.
(just to take my mind off any other results  )

Wigan were very ordinary today. Can’t see them doing it.
