Spirit of Elm Park One thing to say.... Andy Reid £5m.
I rest my case.
Glad to see we haven't been dragged into taking players purely because sections of our fanbase demand it. There is no messiah. We were good enough in August, and we are still good enough now.
Not RTG, just realism.

Fair enough. In reality, Sunderland are above us with a game in hand.

What I don't get is if all this buying and buying makes teams better, why do so many people think the standard of the PL is declining?PlatypussSpirit of Elm Park We were good enough in August, and we are still good enough now.

That only works if the other teams don't get better.

Hoop BlahHoop BlahUke It'll be clear who makes a contribution from their performances, otherwise they're just makeweights and a burden on the salary.
To paraphrase a "well known manager", the ultimate test will be the table at the end of the season...
Also let's not turn this thread into another slag our squad off - please! Theere are a million and one other threads for that.
So you don't believe in having a squad to cover for players being unavailable or out of form then?
I'm not slagging anyone off thanks, just offering an opinion on the subject of the thread.
No commet Uke?
I guess then, that you live in a nice little world were everything goes to plan and you don't have to have a plan B incase A falls apart around you...

Uke From Platypus' thread we have all these players who have gone to our rivals to play a major part in securing their survival.
So why don't we track just how marvellous they are and how many actually make first team regulars and have a real effect?
Perhaps that will see whether the RTGs are right or the GTGs (Grey tinted glasses). The losers buy a virtual pint for the winners at the NHA virtual bar.
Here's the list... Any more to add?

IdealUke OK, so one game in we are looking bad, but this thread is not about the one game is it?
No, but you might want to take a look at how many league games we have lost in a row.. let me give you a clue... it's not just one game
UkeAlan Partridge Quite a few there I personally wouldn't have minded! whether all of them would have fit in here is different but solely as players a few of them would have been more than decent.
Past performance is no guarantee of future performance (as with shares) that's why we should watch from now on.
Basically a line is now drawn in the sand (turf?) from which we see how well we have done.

I take it after our 5 match unbeaten run that preceeded thse results that you were saying it meant we were unbeatable.IdealUke OK, so one game in we are looking bad, but this thread is not about the one game is it?

Platypuss Why draw it on the first of Feb - did (for instance) Prica not contribute to Sunderland's cause in midweek? What about Fulham's draw at Bolton?
by Uke » 03 Feb 2008 19:49
Ideal No, it seems YOU are the one who is missing the point.
Just to clear it up for you:Platypuss Fulham put themselves just 3 points behind us. And yes, their GD is better.
Fulham play Middlesbrough next week, while we are away at Everton.
Who do you think are more likely to get three points, us or Fulham?
I predict that we will then be behind Fulham on the league table, which puts us in which position?
THAT'S RIGHT, 18TH POSITION!
Unless Birmingham manage a draw away at West Ham, then we would in fact be 19th.
And guess what? Part of the reason is that FULHAM went out and SIGNED PLAYERS they NEEDED in the transfer window, while we DID NOTHING (missed out), which is what the thread is all about.

Because that was the end of the "Window of Opportunity" so from the time everythjing was effectively nailed down.
Also you have to draw it at some point.
