anyone count how many misplaced passes St Marek made today?

If it had been Harper he would have been hung, drawn and quartered.

trouble is Marek needs a minder to enable him to make make his passes under less pressure - the only player that we have that could fit that is Bryn from about 5 years ago.

The problem with Marek is that he's too inconsistent. Don't get me wrong, I'd probably still start him on Saturday, but the guy can still be a liability with his passing sometimes and discipline.

Today was a sublime performance; other times he hasn't been so great though.

Contrary to the negative comments today, I'm glad we don't have to make wholesale changes to Burnley. I'd only make two: Marek for Karacan (but he shouldn't be dropped entirely) and Fed for Marcus. Marcus made a mistake today and, although it wasn't as wayward today, his distribution slows the game down too much. We need quick balls, Marcus, like Fed!

I would rather have Hateley back than be dumped with Kitson.

109 goals in 250-odd starts, the majority of which gave been scored at Championship and Premiership level. You don't score that amount of goals and be shit.

But granted, he was shit today.

There is no room for more than 1 inflated ego, and Flavio has that bag.

Dirk Gently He's great distributing the ball when we're going froward, but when it comes to tackling he's a red card waiting to happen. Hence he doesn't start games but comes on later....

The same as Paul Scholes at Man United then?

Marek needs a tough tackling Midfielder to partner him in midfield for him to be used perfectly, and at the moment we do not have one.

I think Tabb can do that role quite nicely, IMO.

Royal Lady I think Tabb's height (or lack of it) is a problem.

Why?

Coz he can't head a ball?

Kitson's twice his size and he can't head one either.

Perfect foil for Matejovsky, if he starts, is Karacan. All action box-to-box midfielder who can tackle. He can do the dirty work for Marek, while Marek does what he does best - threading through balls that run out of play.

The main issue with Marek is his vision often outweighs the pace and intuition of the forwrds/wing and therefore his passes seem clumsy, wildly optomistic and the result of a break down in play. When it clicks he adds to holding midfield playbut when it comes dowm to tracking back or going into a tackle he reminds me of Scholes with badly timed tackles which can lead to a card.
He is both a visionary and a liability in equal doses.

I love Marek. Always have.
He's my favourite Reading player.
However, I can't see another midfielder who's defensive-minded enough to partner up with him.
As for Tabb, he's an awful lot like Sidwell - maybe not as much ability, but generally.
If you think how good Harper was with Sidwell, I wonder how well he'd do with Tabb?
We shall see someday.
For now, Tabb and Marek against Burnley.

Why? What role would Tabb play - how would he make Marek's job easier?

Tabb gets stuck in. He has energy to get all over midfield. Plus, it's either him, Cisse or Jem.

tabb works hard, and what with jem's performance today and cisse just being so inconsistent he is a poor pick from what we have in a sense

Tabbs ok, i don't like him starting in centre mid though.
Marek is the best player reading have by a country mile.... and thats the problem, he is too good for the rest of the team!
I think the best partnership we could play is Marek and Cisse.
Marek and Harper would be ideal, and before you say it... it could work... harper had to play a lot of defensive mid while sidwell was here... and Mareks just a better sidwell! Hell, it worked pretty well for 40 odd minutes against Forest on day 1 of this vvvveeerrryyy long season!

when I read posts like these I totally dispair of the Reading fan sheep nature thing.

He fiicks up more than Kebe, yet gets bl0wjobs from many on here.

Yes, he's got the matchwinning attributes....but his gifted balls doesn't mind what team benefits from them.

County mile lol

It won't happen but take any two from Tabb, Karacan, Harper Cisse (or even Bikey if Pearce comes in) to do the foot in bit behind Marek, lose shunt and tebe and put Long on the right and Doyle on the left of Kitson and stop hoofing the ball and keep it on the floor.....build the team round Marek if you want to get the best from him but not in a 442 I am afraid. Full backs would have to get forward and cross so stretch and rosey/murty would have to get there but this is a team rebuild and there is no time or management inclination to do this.
